Ruby's parents

Hey Ruby,

It's been a long time since I heard an update on your mom and dad.

How are they doing?

Dad is doing ok, I guess. Neither he nor my step mother would tell me anyway unless he was dying! Over Xmas they mentioned some levels were low and he was in danger, but now he is ok- they wait until there is no crisis! I hate that and have told them that, but they choose to keep living this way!

Mom is about the same. Some moment in lower leg, but she is still extremely depressed.

Thanks for asking

My Dad was like that too Ruby.

We think he was in a lot more pain than he ever let on. And when he was hospitalized and we got to see him in a hospital gown it was obvious the cancer had been getting much worse than he ever shared with us.

I hate that.

Awhile ago my dad had prostate cancer and surgery and he never told me until a year later when the tests were all negative. I pitched a fit to them both. My step mom swore she would not do that again, but this round with the kidney transplant- they hid all kind of stuff. They did not know that his transplant coordinator and I were basketball mom's together and our kids were tight! I am sure she broke some rules, but she kept me up to date. I even told them afterward, but to no avail. I understand trying to protect your kids, but I would rather know what to pray for and just be prepared!

Yeah, they want to take on the entire problem themselves and not "burden" their loved ones.

What they fail to understand is that we need to feel like we're doing everything we can to help them. And when they keep things from us we feel cheated because we never realized how bad things were for them.
