I will need my left hip replaced. Doctor told me he thinks it will be when I'm about 53. So I've got about 7 years.

I had Legg-Pertheis Disease when I was nine. Basically that is the flattening of the hip bone. That means you are putting a square peg in a round hole. My hip socket is now egg shaped. The cartlidge is slowly wearing away. When I was 40 my hip flaired up. It felt like it did when I first was diagnosed. Very painful and someimes it locks in place. Making it hard to walk. I saw a doctor then and that's what he told me.
When I was first diagnosed with it the doctors told me to stay off the leg as much as possible....I was 9, fat chance of that. Then they told me if I was very active I would need it replaced as early as 45. I have pretty much done what I want. However, if I do a lot of walking I can feel it. It gets sore and what I can only describe as it feels like it swells on the inside. But no worries. It could always be worse.

Wow, that sucks. But hopefully the surgery would make the pain go away?

I don't have any continious pain. I'm pretty much able to do everything. Except I can't cross my left leg over my right. It's one of those things that I have had it for so long I don't really notice it. I have been told I'm limping more. I've always had a little limp but now I guess it's more noticealbe. I've never been able to tell, unless I've really focused on it. Then I can tell. I can tell you the exact moment I knew someting was wrong. It's burned in my mind. I don't really know why.
I was in third grade and we had been to the school open house where the parents meet the teachers. We had just left the room and we were walking down the hall. My dad says to me, "Why are you limping?" I said, "I'm not limping." He said, "Yes you are, now stop it." It was soon after that that I started having hip pains. Then after that to the doctor and the rest is history!

Here's a couple for me:

I'm not a condiment person.  Can't deal with mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles (most anything pickled for that matter), onions as a topping, horseradish, salad dressing... all that kind of stuff. Ironically, I'm good with BBQ sauce and Buffalo sauce.

I also intensely dislike clowns.  Not silliness in general... I love that.  I'm talking the grease paint, red bulbous nose, stripey wig, hoop pants, oversized footwear, spinning bowtie kind. I'm not afraid of them, so it's not a phobia.  They just piss me off for no apparent reason.

I am so with you on the clowns. They scare me a bit though, too. I can deal with the bum-like clowns, but the always happy ones disturb me. Clown dolls and figurines disturb me too.

Totally hate clowns! They have freaked me out since the original Poltergest. I have yet to make it through that movie! I've watched the sequels though. Can't stand the dolls & figurines either.

I dislike pretty much all of them.  Pennywise, John Wayne Gacy, Bozo, Ronald McDonald...freaks... the whole lot of them.  I've probably just watched too many late night cable shows.

Ruby-
Sorry I missed the question. I'm not exact about this but I know the ball of the hip is sawed off and the bone is drilled out. Then a stainless steel hip is hammered into the bone. I've seen a replacement on tv years ago. I'm sure it's changed a bit. I know if you have the surgery in the morning you're expected to walk to supper! The recovery time has been greatly reduced. The doctor told me I could be golfing again in 10 weeks or less!
