Brainstorm

Riggs and I have been thinking of coming up with ways to market the station on a shoe-string budget.

It just occurred to me that without Riggs letting me know, to this day, I would have NEVER heard of Live365.com. I have never seen ANY advertising what-so-ever on their part

Can you tell us how you found out about Live365?

Do you have any ideas on how we could promote the station effectively on a shoe-string budget?

One idea Riggs came up with is that we're going to design a station newsletter (really just an advertisement) and leave these in local laundromats! There, people are stuck for a bit, oftentimes if there is no local newspaper around, all there is to read is the latest edition of The Watchtower. A free station newsletter would serve the purpose of giving these folks something to read instead of just watching the dryers go round and round- and perhaps something new to tryout online when they get home.

An idea that I had used and am going to start up again for Jazz 101 was a cd-sized insert that I left in cds that I borrowed from the library. It says something to the effect of "If you enjoyed this cd, you might enjoy Jazz 101".

Anything else anyone can think of that might catch your interest/eye somewhere?

I just remembered once Ruby made a WFFR on the beach with shells once!

Once is summer again, I am going to head to the popular beach in town and carve Freeze Frame Radio.com into the sand early in the day, big enough for planes to see as they approach the airport!

I have not talent for advertising or business...but I remember reading something about how you can make your link be first on a Google search- remember the Bush and idiot incidence? Or something like that??? Maybe you could get your station to be first when someone googles 80s music?

See no real talent!

there is somethin there ruby that I am sure will register with Riggs as either feasible, not, or at least get the gears grinding "well if we can't do that, we can do this"....not bad at all, thanks for sharing, and by the way the sand on the beach ad was entirely inspired by your WFFR shell arrangement!  See you do have advertising talent!

I carved the website into concrete in the park! Then they put a big power transformer on top of it.

note to self: make sure it really is a sidewalk before carving next time.

Check with some TV stations.  It has been several years since I have done this, but you can put together a 15 second, thirty second, and 60 second commercial and it can air free, the catch it you have no control over what time it airs--so they may agree to air it three times in a week, but it may be all in one night during 3 am station break.  I will see if I can dig up the papers on it, but there are ways to do it for free.  I am picturing JR and JD bantering with a Late Night Drive Song in the Background.

There is another way that you can send your web link out to like 40,000 email addresses.  The catch is that who knows if it gets read, and you also get about 40,000 emails back from others trying to do the same thing you are.  It costs like 20 bucks

Hey CP- thanks for that idea- thats a new one that did not even cross my mind! I know sometimes the local stations will run local programming late at night and during weekend days, and its all local folk for the ad-times. These are usually the non-affiliated with a network local tv staions- we'd so take the 4:22 am ad slot before the farmer report comes on, if its free!! Nothing to lose there, 3rd shfters, insomniacs, parents of infants and early risers all tuned in! brilliant!

I know there is a local community cable access station as well too- maybe riggs we could do a little 15 minute informercial for that!!

brilliant idea CP!! thank you!!

urp , scuse me . dmn that peng.. err. , chicken was good .

Ok here we go , 1st the age group needs to be addresed , 30ish on up ? and then the ammount budgeted ,10 bucks ? and whats ' hot in America ' this year . = Penguins !

combine the 3 and you come up with- bumper stickers . Look Ma ! a penguin !

sponser a little league team ? or ( at least here ) you can get a sign at the ball field -a

4x8 sheet of plywood with logo painted on it. ( or at a race track )

print some flyers (in color ) and when you go to a B. ball game hand some out.

make some nice posters and see if a record store will let ya put 1 up.( or a small coffee shop with radio playing , pay there premium member bill  )

get Dylan to talk about station when he plays a gig , put a poster on / near the stage, or go with him , mingle with crowd and tell people -hey , these guys are on our station !

maybe get some small decals made , give them to kids at the grocery store.

talk with a local pizza joint , maybe they could stick a flyer on each box that gets delivered

or a chinese place if you can get em to understand ya.

get involved with charity events , anything to get the logo seen by the public.

I think with a limited budget , posters and flyers are the way to go , your mom and pop shops are your best bet with posters , ( they can relate ) design a realy cool flyer that can be sent to other forum members and we can get copies made and hand them out in our towns,

Have Ruby wear her bikini and stand on an I - 75  overpass waveing a poster ,or have Riggs  wear a penguin suit and chase her around the mall ( she's still in bikini ! )

hope this helps , on the flyers , it would give me a great excuse to talk to girls at the beach and most are tourists so itwould  be hitting many states.

That's true! After I did it I worried about being caught! Or them getting ahold of the station. I guess the "no fear" thing goes away when your about 18.

All brilliant ideas dave!!! thanks! you got the gears I needed to kick into gear kickin. all of you! thanks!!!

I think if ruby WOULD be game to that, we'd have the best 15 minutes of local cable access tv ever provided to mankind. Can you imagine the watercooler talk in offices "DUDE SO THIS PENGUIN HAS THIS SPRITZER BOTTLE AND IS CHASING THIS BIKINI BABE THROUGH THE MALL AND INTO SPENCER GIFTS WHERE THIS BIG GORILLA COMES OUT AND THROWS THE PENGUIN DUDE ACROSS THE FOODCOURT AND INTO THE CINNABON, THEN THIS OLD LADY STARTS BEATIN DUDE WITH HER WALKER. THEN THE BIKINI BABE FEELS SORRY FOR THE PENGUIN, AND SO THEN THERE'S A BATTLE BETWEEN HER AND THE OLD LADY....."

great, great TV!

These are some GREAT ideas. Like JD said, it really gets the gears turning.

I''m still planning on putting 4" tall white lettering across the back of my van that just says www.freezeframeradio.com

With the line of work I'm in that would get a LOT of exposure all over town.

In reading down through this, I was thinking that JR, the lettering on the back window.

When I put my business name on my old van, I found a guy on the net that was pretty darn cheap for vinyl lettering. If I remember right, he would do web site addresses for like $4.00 each plus shipping.

If you want, I could try to find him again and see if he's still in business.

Hey, that would be cool web, he's probably got better stuff. I was just gonna buy some lettering from Office Depot, but that's not really MADE for this type of thing.

Yeah, these are made of the real sign vinyl and they come stuck reversed on a sheet so you just peel the backing, slap it on, then peel the top off and your done.

I'll see if I can find him. I think I remember his name.

I learned by just typing in internet radio in Google. went to it. found a bunch of stations. Came across Freeze Frame and it has been home every since.

Course to JD. I have had people ask me about the bookmark you have sent me so hopefully they will come this way to.

Found him HERE. Six to 12" web site ads are only $1.00 each but you'd want to go bigger than that. You can email him for a quote.

When I did my van, I had my business name in 6" letters (21 letters) on both sides with smaller phone and web address. Then on the back it was in 4" lettering, also with web and phone. All that to do the sides and the back was about $100 and the local sign shop was going to charge me $100 just to do the back only.

Give him an email and I expect he'll make you a pretty good deal. He was a nice guy and easy to work with when I used him five years ago.

Hey guys next Summerfest rent some booth space, hire some college kid to walk around in a penguin suit.
When the 80's bands come to town put flyers on the windshields of the cars in the parking lot.
Make up some t-shirts that read got freezeframe?

Obviously I'm biased, but supporting a charity event is a great idea. You can offer free advertising on the station for the event in exchange for the logo and website to be on their materials.

Sponsoring a little league team is also a great idea, but will probably cost you a bit more money. But, FFR would be on their shirts, possibly on a billboard in the park, and you get to be involved with kids and baseball!

Molly I forgot to thank you for your contribution here as well.

I like that idea- trade airtime to promote the event in exchange for a link to us from their site, perhaps our logo on their t-shirt along with the other sponsers!!
