? about Picture

I heard that song Picture by Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock. My ? is- why does the radio bleep out where he says: :Fueling up on coke and whiskey?  I have two ideas and wondered if anyone knew?

1. coke- cocaine... and they see that as offensive?

2. Coke and whiskey...and they do not have permission to use the trademark name?

Random thoughts of Ruby????

The words say cocaine & whiskey.  Apparently that's a no-no these days.  Eric Clapton didn't have that problem back in the day, did he?!?

It's not doing that HERE right?

I know the radio edit does skip the word cocaine, but usually only the AC stations. The rock stations will play the album version.

Now I remember most of the hard rock stations would edit out the F word from Tesla's "Signs", but one night I caught em playin' it straght.

I actually called the DJ and asked if I just heard the F-word. He said "You from the FCC?" I said "No", he said "Then yes, you heard the F word"

One of the worst examples of that (with the obvious exception of rap "songs") was when they bleeped out "cocaine" in Buck Cherry's "Lit Up."  I mean, it's the chorus for heaven's sake!  "I love the cocaine, I love the cocaine."  It was kind of like, why bother playing it at all?

Another surprise is for the Motorhead "Eat the Rich" video on VH-1 Classic, the line that says "Come on baby, eat the rich, put the bite on the son of a bitch, they always bleep out the "bitch" line.  I don't really consider the SOB reference to be a swear.

And the most annoying of all time?!:  When some stations were changing the chorus of george Michael's "I Want Your Sex" to "I want your love / I want your love."  Completely stupid.

Not exactly sensoring, but I found it humorous that many radio stations wouldn't play Tom Petty's The Last DJ. As far as I know, it contains no swearing, no violence, and no sex. But they still didn't like the content!

Then there is the Greatful Dead's KC Jones. I hear that song on the radio all the time.

I think the AC means adult contemporary, but still that does not make a lot of sense. Can't the adults handle it?

Also look at all the songs with the "b" word in it? Elton, etc..

Not very uniform!

Right - I forgot about the TP song.  And you're right - the fact that it's not uniform is probably what's so baffling.
