You know I think this is actually true. If I remember right I think this popped up a few years ago. It was from some manual in the late 40's.

Nope, not true exactly. There were similar things published, but the actual copied article is a fake. See Snopes.

I wish to say if this was true, I am proud of both of my grandmas. They would've kicked grandpa's a$$es had this point of view took hold.

In cases of a stay at home spouse or parent, (rarity as that is anymore) I am all for the (& mind you, be it the husband or wife) attitude of "well I work to pay for this for us, I want it clean, and I want a homemade dinner, pour me a drink when I get home." I think that's just a natural. But this other stuff in this article is demeaning. I hope its just comedic humor from long ago, whose source is forgotten.

Those 1950's sitcoms sure paint the picture like JD found. Father Knows Best, Ozzie And Harriett, Dennis The Menance. All the wives wore dresses, the house was spotless and supper was on the table when the man got home.
If my supper is on the table when I get home it's because no one cleared the table from the night before.

OK-

I think history is fascinating, because there will always be that gap between the written and recorded interpretations and the actuality. Recorded history has been filtered through the past's propaganda mechanisms, be whatever the political and social agendas;  unless the vehicle has been autobiographical literature, for example, Henry David Thoreau. You can't really mess with an autobiographical literary classic that existed pure, before your agenda, unlike this thing this twerp threw at Oprah about his drug runs. The worst thing that can happen is book burnings of classics that upset the day.

Unless a barb, be it genuine or fake,  is thrown out there from the supposed past to remind us today of the way things MIGHT have actually been, how are we to be reminded to question the past, unless it questions, heck, down-right insults us?

My mother raised us girls to have supper made for our husbands, have the house clean, etc.  My mother is a strong woman and she lets her feelings be known, but she taught us to take pride in preparing the meals and keeping the house clean and providing a comfortable home for our husbands.  It's something that is hard to deprogram.  I am the one who makes the meals and cleans the house.  My husband takes care of the outside.  His meals are dished up by me and served to him.  My sister-in-law freaks out about that.  She told me not to do that for her husband again, that I was spoiling him and he would expect her to do it.  Up until a few years ago, when we had family dinners for Christmas, etc., the men all ate first.  That was how my grandfather wanted it and you did not argue with Grampy if you knew what was good for you.  If you were pregnant, you were allowed to eat with the men.

I think it all comes down to what you are comfortable with.  I don't mind doing what I do.  It makes for some late nights because I work full time, but I choose to do that.  I tend to be a control freak and when my husband folded towels (once), I went back and refolded them all.  I also speak my mind, though.  If I'm mad, he's gonna know it.  As long as both people in the house agree on what is to be done, I don't think it matters.  The programming did not take on my sister, by the way.  Her husband is the cook and he helps out a lot in the house.  Different strokes for different folks.  The thing that I find sad is that a lot of women are being raised not knowing how to cook.  I am teaching my son and daughter both how to cook.  My son also helps with the dishes when I can stand it.  He just takes too long to do it and I don't have a lot of time, so it drives me crazy.

I don't agree with the attitude that if someone stays at home that they are expected to do all the housework, though.  I was a stay at home mom for almost a decade.  I was more exhausted as a stay at home mom than I would be if I were a single woman working.  There were times that it was a struggle to have dinner done and if my husband took it for granted that I would just do it because he was working, I would have to disillusion him of that notion.  O.K.  I'll quit babbling now.

I agree that is what you agree to when you get married. I was raised in a home where whoever got home first cooked. My brother and I both were shown how to cook and clean. So I was ok with that. But my hubby never cleans, so I almost never cook. But we are ok with that!

It doesn't apply when you grow up on a family farm, at least not ours.
With just the three of us we did whatever work needed to be done.
My Mom worked right beside my Dad in the barn, the fields or whatever and my Dad did the same in the house.
My Dad and I made the mistake of being too fussy about how we wanted sometime cooked and my Mom told us to do it ourselves and was not about to back down.
Not that we would have tried making her back down.

I think it made me a better person.
I can cook, do laundry, build a building or work on equipment, pretty much whatever.

I guess I didn't mean the whole cook and clean thing, but some of what that says is outlandish "listen to him....because his issues are MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOURS!?!?!"
