I think so . . . but then I'm a nerd.

Digital Life TV: dl.tv
The Lab Rats: labrats.tv

I know that Mz has been watching some of the dl.tv episodes and getting some good out of them.

excellent!

I won't keep you up by asking for the details of these now, but perhaps tomorrow tell me is this something you need to subscribe to, or is it accessible to all? I had heard internet tv is on the way, are these shows at the forefront of that? Is it similar to ordering podcasts?

I just sat here and watched the four labrats CES shows so I still haven't gone to bed yet. Shows what's coming up this year in new, cool stuff.

Totally free downloads. You just download the version (format) you want and watch it at your leisure. The DL.tv episodes have commercials in them, but you can fast forward through those very easily. The dl.tv can be seen live twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays . . . or you can wait until later in the evening when they get the downloads ready (which is what I do).

hey JD what's up?  i'm getting closer to getting a standing gig at the biggest club in waco: grahamns.  the owner really likes our CD, but the next gig's recording will be better, although no sax this time, greg is busy that night w/some big whoop at baylor.  you'll like the piano and guitarist, they are talents i'm very eager to share w/freeze frame radio dot come's audience and YOU.

another blah blah: i got a new trumpet today.  i finally upgraded from a cornet.  it's a late 30's king, awesome.  also i'll debut a new bass on the upcoming gig: a full size bass violin.  hell yes?  amen!

Derek, I can totally relate to the excitement at adding a new intrument to your repetoire.

How many instruments do you play? you play four at this point. Stand up bass, coronet, guitar and trumpet? I am totally in awe of that...you my friend are what I would call a musician's musician.

Congrats on postitioning yourself for a steady gig...I know you will get it.

Derek that sounds exciting as hell. I am here with open arms man- gimme what you got and I will give the freezeframers what I get from you!

I am happy I found jazzbooks.com and its forum man- its nice to have you here! Give me a thumbs-up there and let the folks know this is the real deal? that I do this for the love of the music!

Doing jazz on this station is a challenge. It defies logic- the genres are usually 80's, pop, classic rock. And here I come along on sunday nights and upset the flow with jazz. AND the request system is suspended!!!  BUT the jazz crowd is cool and faithful one, and keeps me coming back! & Ever since the freeze frame forum got started, a lot of these great people showing up too to hang out. Its simply too fun and too cool to do this.

Thanks for being here and contributing to the unique content of my show!!

dylan, i'm very good at some things music, but truthfully i'm mediocre on most, at best.

i play the bass (upright and guitar) well enough to play with anybody anywhere in any style, it's my best instrument and i've made a lot of money playing it out on gigs.  it's also easier that my second best:

guitar!  i'm a les paul rocker turned tele twanger now jazz wannabe.  my guitar chops are fine for rock or blues or country, but i'm still quite green when it comes to jazz.  that sheet is getting this worked out though.  next:

wierd strings!  i play all violins, banjos, ukes, mandolins etc.  i went to bluegrass jam for quite a few years and picked up all the bluegrass instruments along the way....i'm nothing special on any of these, but i can get through, let's say 'blue moon of kentucky' on any of these in public and not embarrass myself, although it has happened.....next:

cornet/trumpet:  my dad played the trumpet, and i used to mess around on his whenever he was not home, growing up.  playing it now is easy, as i know the scales and have a good range.  but my paying experience on this instrument is NIL.  next:

piano:  i took lessons as a kid.  HATED IT!  i am 'classically trained', and was quite good at sight reading, but now i play mostly 'jazz notes' on the ol 88.  next:

sax:  i started on tenor 3 years ago, switched to bari, then alto.  felt best on alto so that's the only sax i currently play.  i'm still half-ass on sax, but my teacher is awesome: greg bashara ~ easily the best player in central texas.  greg is unbeleivable, you're fixin to find out.  next:

drums:  i kinda suck on ol drum kit, but i've made big gains since i've been sitting in with bands playing whatever they are playing.  i like the freedom of jazz drumming, but i'll go with whatever....

dylan, i'm a music freak, totally obsessed, and my wife reminds me of this often.  my goal is not to be the best, although it's in the back of every musician's mind, i think.  i just want to learn how to learn to play all instruments, teach others how to learn 'efficiently', and then attempt to turn masses away from brainless entertainment to the battlefield that is musical improvisation.  in the long run, i want a 'cutting contest' going on in every bar, restaurant, club, laundry mat.....got my work cut out, huh?

ok, i'll turn the spew valve off now.....

jd, no thank YOU bro!  this is way cool, all of this.  you are paving the future though, i believe jazz will fuse w/rap, w/pop, w/rock and w/M.T. Handid's help, country!

JD, let's smash the walls that separate artistic styles by fusing jazz w/everything.  this is a goal of mine. we'll get er done!

who was it ( miles davis ? ) that did fussion back in the late 60's ?  I think it was bad timing that kept it from growing, everyone doin that C , S and N  - be a hippie with the guitar round the campfire thing .

PS-  a gig at a country club sounds like real good exposure ( ka-ching ) to me .

dylan, dude, i'm up for any collaboration w/anybody anywhere anytime...allowing normal life things.  a songwriter i am not, but an archetect of sound i'm becomming.

let's face it, you get your ass kicked in music until you finally learn to play your instrument.  this is a gladeator kinda thing, trouble is all that provides us w/healthy competition is sports and video games.  music can be creative, competetive, and the fusion of body, mind, and spirit.  i want to fight some good fights against other great musicians, whether i come out on top really doesn't matter, nobody gets killed....and everyone benefits.

hell yes dylan, we will create songs.  i'm sick of the current trends: no music or boring music....but i can help people get their chops quicker if i teach others what i've been tought, which has been a lot in my 30s from 2 very good teachers.  that scales sheet has been shoved down my throat by my guitar teacher: kenny frazier.  it's a freakin miracle what it will do to you...run the scales through the cycle of 4ths (all changes up up a 4th degree interval) and you gain music chops as fast as you can think them up....good stuff!

jd, yeah i've seen the guy and drooled, spazzed, and passed out.  unbelievably good!

on a taste note i think all music can me ripe for thrashing, given the right crowd, even jazz.  since i grew up w/the stray cats, i've always had a mind to 'let it hang out' from time to time...it's just my personallity i guess, but i'd like to see more of this done, not just heavy boring drudging metal....if ya know what i mean...

dave, $500 for the gig, $100 per man.  not bad, and lots of fun.  miles fusion was ok, weather report was pretty good, Jaco forever!  but i have a sound in my head that is very different than 70s and 80s fusion:

i want a country type theme for a tune ~ lyrics speaking, against a 2 feel country beat that switches to 4/4 jazz rhythm over the solos, jazz and country instrumentation....that can squeeze in the elevator and stop at: sex pistols, ramones, cramps, suicidal tendencies at will.  punk and rockabilly comprised 10 years of my musical experience, and it won't get out of my system either, i die if i even tried!

I am amazed how much time can pass while I am writing or practicing...I just get totally immersed in the process and before you know it several hours have passed...

I love the lyric writing as much as putting melodies and harmonies together.

You are very fortunate you have a wife that gets the fact this isnt something you do...this is who you are man! It just makes things less stressful if you dont have to fight the people closest to you to do what you love.

But I have a couple countryesque songs (lyric wise) that I always envisioned with a jazz influence that you might have some fun with.
