A Virtual Tour of Your Town

Ray gave me this idea- why don't we select a few pics to show others what your town is like, how you see it. Here is Milwaukee in February:

Hey...is that Folly Beach, Ruby?  I know Charleston a bit.  I have family there.  I love it.  I had a few drunken nights down on Market Street hee hee.  Now I'm sure I have a great reputation with y'all.

Cool!  I love Charleston.  I have some great memories there, hanging out with my nephew back in the '90s (he's just a few years younger than me; my Brother who's son he is is a lot older).  He had an apartment right of the center of town back then (Archdale Street).  Now he lives on Sullivan's Island.

I remember hanging out at the end of that pier.  This was during the time when "Hootie" was huge and Darius Rucker had that song with Edwin McCain always on the radio down there.  We did a lot of partying (Kaminsky's, Music Farm, the Blind Tiger).  Do you know those places?  Ok, I'm getting nostalgic.  I think I'll request some Hootie...

I do not get out much anymore, but I was a bartender and a hard core partier for about ten years from 87-97!

That's so cool!  We might have crossed paths back then.  I went down several times in the mid-nineties.  It was my second home.  I haven't been in about 5 years now.  Jeez, I need to get back!

BTW, they have that Edwin McCain song on the FFR list!  I requested that, too.  It's called "Solitude."  The story goes that it was about a friend of Edwins who's mom sent him away to an asylum because he had a drug problem, possibly more for her benefit than his.  Sad story, but a very cool song.

For me, it reminds me of this big @$$ bag of oysters I bought and ate off of with 3 or 4 friends several times over the course of a week...(we're talking a FULL paper grocery bag that I bought for $10 at a seafood market down there)!  Good times.

When you said you were going to request Edwin, but I had already requested my two! I downloaded that song last night to add to the list and it was there! I LOVE THAT SONG!!!

Have you been to Myrtle Beach- it is fun too, but a lot more touristy than here!

This also hits close to home for me.  My folks are from Lewiston and I still have a bunch of relatives in the Lewiston-Auburn area.  Major connections to Maine.  My folks still have a place on the water near Brunswick (up there they'd say a "camp.").  My aunt still lives in Auburn.

By the way, I can't find any good pictures of MY town on the web.  I'll have to log on from my home PC and load some up another time.  I guess Brookfield, CT doesn't rate enough for pics on the web!  It's kind of a small New England town, but we have a few sites of interest and we're on the edge of a lake (Candlewood).

Yeah, I love that song, too.  Honor Among Thieves was a great album.  I met Edwin McCain around then.  He played nearby in Connecticut about a week after I had just visited Charleston back then.  I felt like a bit of the magic of Charleston had followed me home.  A friend of mine ran the lights for the club and...voila...I got to talk to him.  From what I hear, Edwin was really huge around Charleston just before he broke nationwide.

I have been to Myrtle Beach, but it was just to visit my girlfriend at the time's grandparents in a retirement home.  Not exactly a pleasure trip.  It did look VERY touristy.  Charlestons really classy.  I'm really missing it right now.
