Hey JD

Did you catch the change on the homepage? I put the player windows up for both streams, so now folks can see what's happening on the jazz fest as well as whats goin' on with the request stream.

Hey JD,

Is most of what you play on this show actually something that was an underground hit in the 80s, or do you just play stuff that you liked off cd's?

I'm just curious, because none of this stuff charted, I'm wondering how you heard of it or if you're just learning of some of it as you go.

That Blondie song and the Velvet Underground song would sound fine on any of the stations i used to listen to, I wonder why they weren't played.

well riggs tonight is sort of unconventional- more of the sound from the 70's that influenced what became 80's underground music. There will be some big names in here- Blondie, Ramones, The Motels....this is more about their origin- I doubt this stuff ever charted anywhere.....but the hardcore Und 80's fans would have been listening to this stuff back in the day!

I was one of those lucky people growing up in that I had a very large circle of friends at home and school. I was exposed to all kinds of stuff. The underground 80s stuff hits home because I hung out with a large group of people that listened to all these bands. They would not just play one song either- they would play the whole album and you learned to appreciate so much more that way.

me too ruby- I never subscribed to the fact that I had to hang with this clique or that one- I had a good group of friend from each group....I got the best of all worlds and many of these fine folks are still my friends. I am still proud to say a few of the mohawk kids became friends with the football kids because of me- and the common meeting ground was music!

Yes- that was sooo me. I think my wide tolerance for music made me more accepting of all people!

It is also funny to see how so many of those people changed as they got older. Being in a clique in school might have been ok, but in the real world, it gets you no where!

I am still thankful that in the final couple of months during my senior year that it seemed all the walls came down. To this day, I see people that I went to school with at our big annual Summerfest. These are people that only run into eachother there, it seems like a mini-reunion of sorts, and in a way its like just picking up on where the conversation left off from the previous year....for 18 yrs now, between a dozen or two dozen people.
