Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre said he is leaning toward retirement rather than return for a 16th NFL season, ESPN reported.

"I wish I knew where I stood," Favre said. "If I had to pick right now and make a decision, I would say I'm not coming back.

"I'd like to wait till training camp," Favre added. "But I know I have to make the decision in the next month for their sake."

The paper this morning said this was how he felt right now...but he still has another month or so before the team needs to know...the GM and new coach said take his time in deciding...there is still a chance he may return. I hope he does...otherwise the club probably will go into full rebuiding mode

He needs to retire at his prime. All good football quarterbacks retire at the hite of thier careers.

Troy Aikman

Dan marino

Steve Young

Roger Starbuach

Joe Montana

Joe namath

Cmon Brett. Come to the other side

Thumper, I would agree with you to a certain extent...

But I dont think Brett's skills have diminished, just his supporting cast.

I know Namath played probably several years past his prime...anyone remember his LA Ram years?

Montana played on some mediocre Chief teams toward the end of his career. That is the situation Favre may be facing...similar to Montana in the fact he still has some skills but a less than full arsenal of weapons to play with...

I entirely agree- he went in this year in the best shape of his life. His supporting cast just wasn't there.

I don't blame him if he doesn't come back tho.

Its time to go when its time to go.

Troy was understandable as he suffered 10 concussions during his carreer which definately led to him ending his career which he could have played longer.

I was watching ESPN last night when they had a sit down talk with him. And one of his lines was something about if there were two minutes left in the game with the game on the line, I am not sure if I want the ball. For a guy that made so much of the last two minutes of a game to say that seems he may be done. The physical aspect is there, but I am sure he doesn't know mentally what he wants to do yet but the way the interview was last night, it sounded like he was finished.

As Yogi Berra ised to say..."90 percent of the game is physical, the other half is mental"

and when a player loses his mental edge....regardless of his physical ability...he might as well quit.

What made him special was his desire for the ball in ALL situations. If he no longer wants to be the one pulling the trigger...maybe it might be best if he retire.

Going half speed when the rest of the league is full tilt is a recipe for injury...and that would be a horrible way to end a stellar career.

I kind of had the feeling that the way he was waving as he left the field the last game, that that was it.

D - I think he knew. In the interview last night he was talking about talking to the coach of the Seahawks in late November/early December about playing them the last game of the season at home and it possibly being his last game.

Some players are meant to maybe coach or least get into some aspect like that, and some should just go away, but Favre has the looks, like Aikman to go into broadcasting.

We will see!

I'd like to see that, but I am not sure if he's got that broadcast charisma in him....always seemed kinda gruff, lose, easy-going....he'd be a fine add to a broadcast team for comedic comments....Aikman seemed always to be a bit more suit and tie than dirty baseball cap wearing Brett.
