wedding receprion ideas

okay everyone! My Fiance finally have a location for our wedding(we havent booked it yet-but were sure its going to be available) But the wedding is going to be in mid august, and I have come up with a daisy theme,  its also going to be a picnic... I have some Ideas for favors(a small flower pot, with daisy seedswith a little note attached something saying like... plant these seeds when you get home and watch our love grow...)(or if someone has a better Idea....) these will be on everyones chairs for the wedding since we are not havinga traditional wedding.... Were having a BBQ and its BYOB outside With horseshoues and volleyball, and frisbee and other fun things. Its really laid back. Im thinking about yellow, white and silver for colors. Anyone have more ideas to go with the theme?

Bubbles- a little bottle of bubbles on each chair, with your names and the wedding date as a label. That could be fun. People blowin bubbles outside because they can. Give the kids something to do for awhile so the adults can chill......

This is funny cause I was  thinking about asking people about weddings- theirs or just in general.

I was like Woo Hoo- we eloped and got gifts!!!

The girl in my office whose daughter is getting married took out a loan yesterday to pay for the wedding! I do not get that at all!

I guess this is a long winded answer that I have no ideas!

Mz had a renaissance style wedding in the park in July. Only the wedding party dressed up, and everyone else dressed pretty casual. It was in the evening, just before the sun started setting, under a willow tree. The ceremony was perfect!

They wanted to keep the whole thing small, so the only food they served at the reception was sparkling juice and individual coffee cakes. No one ate the cakes, and everyone drank the juice. We had reserved the park, but someone else decided to have their wedding in another part of the park that they had not reserved, and they stole all the picnic tables, so we only had 3. So everyone was standing around, and the reception line was pretty non-existent, and all of the couple's time was spent getting their picture taken and trying to give equal time to everyone. And then, kind of as part of the wedding, a group of us were traveling to the Renaissance Faire the next morning. Well some people wanted to stay out all night and party, some people wanted to leave first thing in the morning, some people wanted to eat breakfast first, some people who said they were going decided they weren't going to go, even though their tickets were already bought, it was hell. Mz was crying on the ride back to the hotel after the reception.

So, my biggest suggestion would be to hand the organizational part over to someone else for your reception. You can make the decisions, but let someone else decorate and herd the people in the right direction. And whatever you do, don't plan a trip with other people the next day. In fact, I wouldn't plan a trip at all the next day. Spend the whole day in your hotel room with your new hubby.

I got married at the courthouse. Saved all the money for a rockin' honeymoon (a week long cruise). Had a reception a a local VFW hall when we got back. I'd do it the same way if I got married today.

Oh, yeah. I also found out that nobody believes you when you say don't bring gifts.

Courthouse or Vegas sounds like a good idea!  I'll have to remember that if/when I get remarried.  The first go round was a nice Church wedding/reception.

I agree that you should DEFINATELY have someone carry out your wishes - let them handle the headaches.  It's YOUR DAY so whatever you do -  don't stress out!!  Just enjoy the attention and the fun.

Sorry... I too did the courthouse thing. Got married in Texas, drove back to Kansas that afternoon. Our "honeymoon" if you wanna call it that was stopping somewhere along I-35 in Oklahoma to visit the remains of what they called a castle that was near a really pretty waterfall.

Oh I have a much more redneck wedding story! The wedding did take place in a reverend's home in Myrtle Beach. It was a very beautiful home- like something out of a craft store. That was total luck though- the chapel we were supposed to go to- the chaplain died and this was our only choice- to go to this man's house, before he performed another wedding at another chapel! But like I said their home was awesome, they took pictures and videotaped it and gave us a beautiful framed certificate. We (me, hubby and both kids) then went to the Nascar Cafe in Myrtle Beach. Then we went to our hotel were they four of us spent the night in the same room!

slip a few pot seeds in there .

might wanna have a back up plan just in case of bad weather , maybe a bowling alley ? you could get like 8 lanes at one end . noisy , fun and informal . plus all the guys can make crude jokes to your hubby everytime you bend over to throw the ball.

PS- I went the justice of the peace route.

Conggratulations on the upcoming wedding Myndi.

I am thinking that candles are a nice thing.

a co worker and her fiance made little votive candles with thier names on them and gave them as gifts.

I think the colors are nice for a summer wedding.

Also the plant thing is a nice touch.  I am loving the outdoor theme with a very relaxed aptmosphere. nice touch.

you have got to get with thumper and I.  Belive it or not but I worked in the hotel business for over 15 years and without stretching the truth, I think I have catered over 2000 weddings.  I have seen it all, with all budgets etc.  My wife and I have a fairy tale wedding.

We had the ballroom of a hotel and had the guests walk down the entire hallway through baloon archways. As they walked in there was a wall of ice sculptures from swans to cupids.  I designed a cake that was to die for, in fact, the cake company stole my desing and entered into the Las Vegas Show and won first prize for best and most innovative design.  Let's talk.

You're gonna have to sneak me into the reception some how. Or get me an official invite

I had a Ren Fest wedding too. We must've done something right, we actually had people call the next day thanking us for inviting them!

Someone else mentioned this and it bears repeating. Get a wedding coordinator. For me it was my mom's best friend who was more than happy to spend the day making sure everything ran smoothly. The one thing I should have paid a little money for was hiring a clean-up crew. We rented a lodge on a mountaintop (sounds expensive, but it was a state park). It was so reasonable, we were able to rent the three picnic pavilions as well to keep other parties from occurring on the same day (sorry to hear your tables were stolen, Mz!). Anyway, after a four hour reception, no one felt like cleaning up, but it had to be done, it was miserable.

The other thing I'd caution you about is the BYOB. That's fine if you aren't expecting gifts - in fact, I'd suggest a potluck / BYOB thing if you are telling people not to bring gifts. However, if you are expecting gifts, expect that people will deduct from the value of the gift, whatever they pay in beverages and food they are expected to bring - so you'll be paying for that beer one way or another.

I heard from some wedding disaster interview that this one couple actually CHARGED people to come to their wedding because it was such an over the top affair - can you imagine having to buy a ticket to your friend or family member's wedding? That'd be enough of a turn-off to keep me FAR away - or at least consider the ticket price (and my presence) their wedding gift!

Aside from the above, my wedding was awesome - and reasonable relatively speaking. I designed the gown - and didn't put a spending limit on that or the cake. Everything else was cheaply done - we even ran an ad in the local paper looking for a photographer - and ended up with a great one at a third the cost of going to someone!

The cake was my favorite part - we gave the designer a resin castle and told her to build a mountain around it. She must've had fun with it - she put in lots of pine trees out of sugar cones and icing, a cascading waterfall, etc. It was amazing... And we asked people to dress in costume if they felt like it, but no ties. Most people dressed th part, surprisingly! We had a king and queen, two jesters, a 6'5" executioner and two friends wore burlap sacks and came as the poor. Hilarious!

Anyway, that's my two cents - er maybe that's more like fifty cents. Sorry!
