Funny you should ask...

Exactly 1 hour ago, he got moved out of the ICU & into his own room. YAY!!!

He's not completely better, but he's on steroids & feeling better. He's had a couple of fevers today, but they're not as high as they we're last week.

So...He's better. Not 100%, but better.

Good job, guys. It seems to be working.

FANTASTIC!

Getting out of ICU is a huge step! He was in there for an awful long time!

We'll keep up the thoughts of prayers and get yer husband home as soon as we can!

I'm really happy for you Pambo! I know it's not over, but at least you're starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm so happy that he's better. Now maybe I'll quit worrying so much & get some sleep for a change. I haven't been taking care of anyone but him since the 5th...myself included. I'm absolutely torn up. Now I might get a chance to take some rest time. Again, might I say YAY!!!!

I haven't pulled out the "I-told-you-so" yet but only because he's been so sick. I'm intending to save it for the next time he's sick..as in, '"Remember the LAST time you were sick & wouldn't go to the hospital? Wasn't it me who said that you needed to go to the ER? I told you so then & I'm telling you now..." Hopefully it will capture his attention plus prove me right. YAY!!!

Another update. Richard got a really sick roomate today around 2:30. His night shift nurse was very uncomfortable with him sharing a room with someone that ill, especially since he's already so ill himself. She insisted on putting him in a private room so he would be safe. This act of kindness was so unexpected. I broke down & cried because I finally saw someone show how sick they think he really is. I've been able to live in denial about how sick he is by being busy being his caregiver...getting water, getting food, getting popcicles, getting lotion, and so on. This made me remember that he's gonna have lupus forever & it will eventually kill him.

He doesn't know I went mental...but I needed to tell someone. Thanks for being my someones.

You're one tough cookie Pambo! When I get into spots of despair I always think about what a co-worker told me years ago.
If God brings you to it He'll bring you through it.
It seems to help.

Hang in there.

Hey Pambo- how are you today?

Hey I did some research and read this: I will pray for him.

PROGNOSIS:

The idea that lupus is generally a fatal disease is one of the gravest misconceptions about this illness. In fact, the prognosis of lupus is much better today than ever before.

It is true that medical science has not yet developed a method for curing lupus and some people do die from the disease. However, people with non-organ threatening disease can look forward to a normal lifespan if they

  • follow the instructions of their physician,
  • take their medication(s) as prescribed, and
  • know when to seek help for unexpected side effects of a medication or a new manifestation of their lupus.

Although some people with lupus have severe recurrent attacks and are frequently hospitalized, most people with lupus rarely require hospitalization. There are many lupus patients who never have to be hospitalized, especially if they are careful and follow their physician's instructions.

New research brings unexpected findings each year. The progress made in treatment and diagnosis during the last decade has been greater than that made over the past 100 years. It is therefore a sensible idea to maintain control of a disease that tomorrow may be curable.

Thanks for the good news. Now for the bad. He has systemic lupus...the organ threatening kind. It attacked his liver one summer. It got his kidneys the next. They had him on steroids both times which worked. He's been on chemotherapy drugs, too. That's supposed to put lupus into remission...and it did for over a year. This is apparently a flare up because of the viruses he has. They'll get him back into remission...they HAVE TO..or I'll fight them.

Gosh, I have been such a bummer lately. My husband would fight me for being so pessimistic. He thinks he's going to outlive me by years. That's his nature though. Always optimistic. Never sweating the small stuff. Yep. That's my man.

Pambo- take comfort in the reality that we will never know when or how someone will die. Miracles happen but sometimes tragedies do too. Keep your chin up. Each day is a gift that none of us are guaranteed. But God does take care of us either way

And you are so not a bummer and I am glad that you can come here and share with us and maybe even feel better and more like yourself for ten minutes

I like richard's attitude throughout this- optimistic, thinking he is going to outlive you. Its that kind of attitude and drive he needs, where he mentally needs to be at to help himself fight. Either that, or get mad. But don't give up or give in.

This has been a rough day. First thing this morning Richard had another bout with the fever (103) but this time there was a little bonus thrown in. Atrial fibrillation & a heart rate over 200 beats per minute. Fabulous. They moved him into the room right next to the ICU & everone who enters must wear a mask. Yep. Me included. I feel so pretty. So...now what? I have no clue. They've pretty much ran every test known to man. I guess we're at wait & see time now.

Pambo, The hardest part of what your husband is facind sounds like not knowing wgat is wrong...because then you could at least focus on what you are fighting....Make sure you are getting enough sleep...these can be totally draining for a patients family....I know that all too well. As usual, your family stays in my prayers

Thanks, Dylan. I'm trying to take care of myself...but I'm not very good at it. Yesterday I had cinnamon popcorn & a chocolate chip cookie for breakfast. I'm apparently not 'in' to nutrition right now. I told the man that he needs to get better before I start busting my seams.

You hit it on the head. Not knowing is the worst part. All I need is something I can help him fight. Gimmee something to Google, man. I'll get some answers. But, no. This has to be a mystery. SHEESH!!!

Latest update...

The cardiac doctor told us that he's going to do a procedure on Richard first thing Monday morning. What it comes down to is an internal sonogram of his heart. If he's still got the irregular heartbeat, they're gonna shock him so the heart will get back to normal. They've got him on a blood thinner & some heart meds...but the dr. must have said the word 'stroke' about 6 times. I'm doing a partial freak out. I even mentioned the word 'will' to Richard today. He wouldn't talk about it though.

Funny story...

Our son came up to visit tonight. He had to put on a mask so he could come in. He had the worst trouble with that thing. He popped himself in each eye. He couldn't figure out any way to eat so he went into the closet to eat. He even got his little sideburns caught in the elastic. By the end of the night he was so relieved when he got the thing off, he put the elastic under his chin & put the mask on the top of his head. In the elevator, he started scratching his belly, chattering like a monkey & shaking his drink cup at me. He also asked me to play him a song to beg to so he could get some change for the vending machines. That little dude is so WARPED! I just LOVE that about him.
