I found some good advice on the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association's blogs. There's some info about people quitting caffiene, aspartame & saturated fats...and their pain goes away. I quit drinking pop in November so all the aspartame & much of the caffiene in my life are already gone. There's a webcast tomorrow about the low saturated fat diet that a dude did that helped him. I'm SO gonna be there. biggrin.gif

SYDNEY (AP) -- It was a chance encounter in the charred landscape of Australia's deadly wildfires: A koala sips water from a bottle offered by a firefighter. David Tree noticed the koala moving gingerly on scorched paws as his fire patrol passed. Clearly in pain, the animal stopped when it saw Tree.

"It was amazing, he turned around, sat on his bum and sort of looked at me with (a look) like, put me out of my misery," Tree told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "I yelled out for a bottle of water. I unscrewed the bottle, tipped it up on his lips and he just took it naturally.

"He kept reaching for the bottle, almost like a baby."

The team called animal welfare officers to pick up the koala Sunday, the day after deadly firestorms swept southern Victoria state.

"I love nature, and I've handled koalas before. They're not the friendliest things, but I wanted to help him," Tree said.

Often mistakenly called koala bears because they resemble a child's teddy bear, the marsupial is actually a rather grumpy creature with a loud growl. It rarely comes down from the trees and doesn't like walking.

Koalas are especially vulnerable to wildfires because they move slowly on the ground.

The wildfires cut through parks and forests and sent countless wombats and other native species fleeing. One resident reported seeing kangaroos bouncing down the road with flames at their backs.

The fires also razed farmland, killing or panicking sheep and cattle. Television footage showed cows running down the main street of a smoke-filled town.

A count of the animals killed has not been made.

Tree said he found the koala in a burned-out forest near Mirboo North, about 90 miles (150 kilometers) east of Melbourne, Victoria's capital.

Koalas normally drink almost no water because they get almost all their fluids from the leaves they eat.

After the scorched koala sipped from the water bottle and Tree's crew moved on, animal welfare officials came by.

The koala was in pain but recovering with antibiotics, Jenny Shaw of the Mountain Ash Wildlife Shelter told Melbourne's The Herald Sun newspaper.

"She is lovely - very docile - and she has already got an admirer. A male koala keeps putting his arms around her," Shaw was quoted as saying. "It will be a long road to recovery, but she should be able to be released back into the wild in about five months."

The Royal Society for the Protection of Animals said it was establishing shelters to care for thousands of pets and livestock affected by the fires.

Despite her gender, the now famous koala is nicknamed Sam.

A group of 15 educators slated to share a $76 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot all showed up Tuesday to their jobs at a school district north of Redding.Steve Gray, assistant principal at Shasta Lake School and one of the winners, described the scene on his campus as "bizarre," adding that he is happy to see people who chose careers in education finally strike it rich. The group also includes teachers, a school nurse, a school psychologist and the Gateway Unified School District superintendent. They purchased the ticket at a Circle K store
Gray said he and his wife first learned that the winning ticket had been sold in Shasta Lake by reading a local newspaper. They went to the school and took the ticket out a cabinet where it was kept. His wife, Susan Gray, called the California Lottery to verify the numbers and began shaking. The winning numbers from the Saturday jackpot were 14-23-24-25-44. The mega number was 18. The group has been playing the same numbers for years. The lottery group has had various participants over the past six years. Each participant gives $104 at the beginning of the school year, which works out to $2 per person per week. The group plans to come to Sacramento on Friday to claim the winnings.Meanwhile, a representative of the California Lottery said nobody had stepped forward to formally claim the jackpot as of Tuesday.Gray added that the group will take the lump-sum prize, instead of being paid over time.Shasta Lake is midway between San Diego and Seattle. Its population is just more than 10,200, according to a 2008 California Department of Finance estimate.

That's going to be me when I win tonight's Powerball jackpot. nod.gif

Unless Mema has something to say about it. She may purchase the winning ticket. I am not going to remind her to buy a ticket tonight.

Uh... Fuzzy... You did just remind me. nod.gif Thanks! Maybe we will both win. Pambo is on this numerology kick right now, so she made us pick special numbers to play. We'll see how that goes.

I'm trying out some new numbers too. I'll give them a month or so. If they don't work, I might look into the numerology thing too.
