Political mess.

From everything I've read, the patent holders of the software that the Blackberry uses had every thing in their favor except the politicians.

The Blackberry is VERY popular with politicians, lawyers, and law makers. They put a lot of pressure on the patent judge to nullify the patent. Which, I really don't care if the Blackberry lived or not, but the abuse of power bothers me.

I checked into a Blackberry just before all this started and just the monthly service here is $50/month . . . and that is not cell phone, that's just the email and web on the Blackberry.

web- aren't there similar alternatives to blackberry too that were never in danger of being cut off?

I just heard another update.

I've now heard that the deal was going in Blackberry's favor but the judge did the right thing and said that the patent is valid. Blackberry settled and will pay $612 million to the patent holders to continue to use their software.
