Going to Vegas!!

"Family Vacation in Vegas"- Is that an oxymoron?  Spring Break's next week.  We're taking the kids to Vegas.  It's a goal of ours for the girls to see all 50 states.  We're got about 20 under our belt.  This will knock out Nevada.

Hopefully, I won't be giving them an education of the detrimental kind on this trip.  Any suggestions for family friendly fun in Sin City?  We're staying at the Circus Circus hotel and doing Hoover Dam.  Oh yeah, let me throw in there that I'm a Mrs. Cheap.  We can't afford to be doing any $100 shows or anything like that.

I've never been, but I hear Circus Circus and Hoover Dam are great places to stay and visit from people I know who have gone. Have fun!!

I haven't been to Vegas, but let me know how it goes! I know there's an amusement park on top of one of the buildings, but I don't know much about it.

There is a rollercoaster on top of one of the buildings. Somewhere along the strip is a Coca Cola place and a M&M's place. It was a hundred years ago and I can't remember if it cost anything. At the Coke place you can try all kinds of soda. I never made it to the M&M's place.

We flew into Vegas, stayed there a few days, did the Hoover Dam tour. I suggest you pay a little extra and take the deep tour. You get to go deep into the working areas of the dam. Then we went and did the Grand Canyon and went through Sedona (sp?). We flew out of Phoenix.

From what it looks like, each big hotel/ casino has SOMETHING to draw a crowd.  I've heard about the roller coaster.  We're planning on finding it, the fountains at Bellagio, and I think there's a full size Eiffel Tower at the Paris Hotel.  I've also heard about a Pirate Ship Show and Medieval Show at two of the other casinos that we want to catch as well.

Hey Confuzzed- Thanks for the "Deep Tour" suggestion.  I'll check that out.  We've done the Grand Canyon.  We are also thinking about going just into California so we can add that to our list of "Seen" states too.  I'd like to eventually break California into two trips.  One to Southern Calif, San Diego and LA, then the other to Northern California with San Francisco and wine country.

Mostly what I remember about Vegas was slot machines everywhere!  Bathrooms, airport, etc.  And lots of women walking around in wedding dresses.  Everywhere.  The shows are wonderful, though.  We saw David Cassidy in 'EFX', and he was really good.

now, if y'all ever come to oklahoma (if you haven't already) you need to go the the art museum in okc -- they have an incredible dale chihuly collection.

have a great spring break vacation!

I WISH I WERE GOING TO VEGAS! I call it my home even though I've only been there once!

New York, New York has the rollercoaster, yes there is a pirate show, I liked doing the Eiffel tower at Paris, The fountains dancing at the Bellagio are cool! Definitely check out the M & M shop. There is a Nascar place. There are a few different virtual reality rides that are cool to do. Trying to remember where they are: I think some are inside Caesar's Palace in the mall area, and I know that there were some in the Luxor. Man I love the Luxor! That's all I can think of now & I have to go back to work! I just saw "VEGAS" and I had to check the thread out! Oh and there is a rollercoaster on the top of the Stratosphere and a crazy ride at the very top of that -that shoots you up in the air..

PS I WANT PICTURES!

Yes, but can you lead us to the Hanson residence so I can stalk one of my favorite bands?

I think we should all save our pennies and in a couple of years meet in Vegas. We could reek havoc on the place.

Thanks Woo Hoo.  I think my four days are now officially booked.

Disco Strangler- We're actually looking at doing OKC Memorial Weekend.  We camp with another couple.  They've seen on the Food Network that you all have a big Chuckwagon planned that weekend and that it's a pretty big festival.  Are you familiar with this.  We're also wanting to see the memorial out there.  After seeing the pix of the chihuli rocks that Molly showed, we may have to do that too!!

Totally love that idea Fuzzy!

There is also a lion habitat at the MGM Grand where you can get your picture taken with lion cubs! We did that!  Her name was Indigo.

Hey Lady Strange-

Did you see Hanson on MTV cribs?  It was pretty good.  I wasn't angry at them like I am a lot of the stupid other celebrities that act like they're going to be wealthy forever.  They appeared to at least be halfway frugal.  I may be wrong, but if I hit the jackpot, I really don't think I'd immediately go buy my Ferrari and mansion.  Must be the miserly accountant and financial side of my brain taking over.

yay!  haven't been to the chuckwagon & cowboy festival, (at the cowboy hall of fame), but my niece took her kids and they loved it!  little kids really love the cowboys (hmmm, so do i -- in their tight wranglers -- rawr rawr!), and while you are there, try to make it to the paseo arts festival (same weekend).

Yes, I did see that.  Isaac was dorky but lovable.  It was enjoyable.  No, I think what you noticed is right - they've been brought up to be very very humble and realistic.  Even in interviews when they were kids, they'd say things like, 'We've been very lucky, but in this business, you're here today, gone tomorrow, and you can't expect to stay on top.  But if our record label were to drop us, we'd hope we could still find a way to continue making music, which is what we really love to do.'  And actually, years later that's what happened, and they went and started their own label.  Very impressive for such young guys, really.

Wow - Well, good luck with Wayne!  If you do meet him, post a photo for me!

By the way, I have never stalked ANYONE at their own home, and never would.   I know a girl in NJ who did that to JBJ.  That's just not right.

Lady Strange- I think I would give the parents some kudos for the Hanson Bros.

It's a shame Joe Simpson didn't take notes.  In my opinion, he's been exploiting his girls and they're personal lives are feeling the effects.  I'm thinking he's been bit by the very contagious materialistic bug that breeds in Hollywood.

No, parking her car at the culdesac by his driveway, and staying all day.  It was pretty common to have carloads of girls parked out there.  (Rude.)

What's the point?

Does anyone else have a strategy in case they meet someone famous, or is that just me daydreaming? It sounds so simple, but if I ever met anyone famous, I'd do what I can to just treat them like a normal person.

I love VEGAS.  There are some awsome things to do there.  I am an MGM Grand fan or sometimes Ceasars.  There is a beautiful property next to circus circus, the Hilton Vacation Ownership--tell them you want a presentation and they will most likely put you up in a two bedroom condo for a very cheap price.  I love to gamble, both slots and blackjack.  My casino host takes very good care of me.  Let me know when you will be there and I will introduce you to my host via email.  I can at least get you VIP seating in the dining areas, where you don't have to wait in any lines.

I am jealous.  I have not been to vegas in several months and miss it.  Awesome place to party.  The kids will love circus circus, and if you can, go to the Excalibur Tounament of Kings dinner show.  I have taken my kids to that one, no lie, probably ten times or more.  Call the Excalibur in advance to check on tickets.  Go to the early show--its better than the night.

TG, I hope you enjoy your dam tour, my wife has been there and really got into the whole dam thing. She said when you are underground the dam temperature is really cold. The only thing she said she wished they would have let her keep her dam hard hat as a souvenier. I wouldn't mind going to see the whole dam thing myself someday. Don't forget to ask for some dam tokens for the binoculars when you are there.

Reminds me:  I went to the dam to get some dam water.  I asked the dam man if I could have some dam water.  The dam man said I needed a dam bucket.  So off to the dam gift shop I went to get the dam bucket and fill it with the dam water.  The dam man told me it was enough dam water and reminded me that the dam wasn't my dam property.  So I asked the dam man if he was paid by the dam boss.  He was and I said that my tax dollars paid his dam salary.  Or so the story goes.

Thanks CP for the Excalibur idea.  I'll check into that.

And as always, thank you too Sparky for your words of wisdom.  Sounds like that trip to Lake Meade and Hoover might take the whole dam day.

JR- Do you think we should start the Penguin on this trip?  Let me know, and I'll get him packed and ready to go.
