Satellite Radio. Anyone have it?

Ok, I'm all jacked up on baseball now and I'm thinking of running out this morning and getting XM radio so I can listen to the ballgames from around the country while I drive around.

Does anyone have either of the satellite radios? If so, what are your thoughts, particularly in regards to reception?

Do you need really need baseball all over the place if you have the Brewers most days of the week? If there were at least one game during the day, every day then maybe. But I do not think that is the case. Besides, Brewers games are free. And they should be the only ones you care about.

I have XM, and mostly I love it. My reception has been really good everywhere except for here on the corporate campus, which I more or less expected. There is a good selection of channels, and a bonus for me is that Howard Stern is apparently not among them. I do get a simulcast of my MSNBC programs which makes me very happy.

Actually Fuzz, there's quite a few day games. Every Monday & Thursday is usually get-away day so there's day games across the league.

Weekends often have day games.

The Cubs have day games a lot when at home.

Also, I hate the Cubs, so I like the idea of listening to the OPPONENTS broadcast as opposed to the Cubs radio team.

FINALLY, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES ME THE BASEBALL.

If it's even REMOTELY interesting to me I want to listen.

For example. Maybe it's an AL team like Seattle that has nothing to do with the Brewers, but I like to listen and hear what Richie Sexson is doing.

Or maybe it's a Cardinal / Phillies game and I want to know how St. Louis is playing and see if I can trash talk you at all the next day

If I get the satellite radio I would disconnect it after the season is over every year. It would be a baseball-only thing. So that's only about $75 for a full season of baseball wherever I am.

If I could get FFR in my truck, I would gladly listen to it there.  Alas, XM it is. Heck, thanks to the firewall upgrades I can't even get FFR sound in my office anymore.  I'm lucky to get to the forum.

I have thought about getting it a couple of times in the past two years, but I do not know if I would listen to it enough to justify paying for it every month.

I knew Thursdays usually have a day game, as exampled by the Phillies tomorrow. I just thought that most games were in the evening.


I guess $75 for the season isn't bad. As long as there is a game on somewhere. Has the cost of the equipment come down since its inception? And do you need something different if you have it in the car and want to take it into the house? I guess I should do my own research.

The equipment prices are the only reason I'm considering it finally.

For $50 you can get an ipod sized tuner that can be listened to like an ipod, or heard on an FM station in your car or home because it sends out a signal to them.

So it's completely portable.

Last year I bet I spent $100 buying ala cart games via the internet, but I hated having to be tied to my computer to hear the games, and it did me no good when I was on the road.

I would not have thought to buy it for myself as the idea of "paying for radio" just doesn't seem right... no clue why I would think that way, I pay for satellite TV.  Kevin bought the gear for me for Christmas.  I love it. I have not had weather related issues.  I do experience environmental issues, like tall buildings and parking garages obstructing the signal here on campus, but have not had that anywhere else.  I can see where driving through a tunnel or spending significant time beneath an overpass would inhibit signal, but that is not much of an issue in KC.

Cool.

It shouldn't pose much of a problem for me either then, except for the last hour of my day when I'm downtown. But that's a pretty hectic part of my route and I don't really get to listen to much of the radio then anyway.

I hear you on "paying" for radio. It does seem hard to do. That's why I think I'd only be a subscriber during the baseball season. It seems like value to be getting every major league baseball game all summer. I don't know if I could pay $12.95 a month just to hear music and some talk shows. Particularly when I have 5000 CD's and an ipod to put them on.

I can honestly say that the environmental issues are generally only for a few seconds.  Nothing you can do about being in a tunnel or a parking garage. Signal just doesn't permeate that much concrete and rebar. I think it is worth it.  Hubby thinks so too... his reasoning for getting me that is I don't like to listen to commercials, so I tend to channel surf.  Alas, on local radio I can flip through all my stations and hit a commercial every time.  Not so much the case on satellite.
