Charcoal or Gas???

Holy Christmas Pole the spring is upon is! Grilling Out season!!

What do you prefer? The taste of charcoal or the convenience of gas grilling??

Personally, I don't see the point of gas grilling. Its like a 2nd rate broiler when it comes to taste, cetainly doesn't taste like grilled-out food. Gimme charcoal, the elements of chance, the fire!!!

I underdstand what you are saying, but we grill on propane almost everyday. We use it so much that it is more convenient to cook that way. But I do prefer the taste of charcoal. My hubby keeps things on the grill that add wood flavors and fruit flavors. It is pretty good too!

well hey, thats a pretty important and cool thing as far as taste goes. I have not done a gas grill in 12 years, I never heard of these flavor additives to gas grilling. thats cool!

I know that when my buddy Mot has a grillout on his gas grill, it lacks that grilled flavor of charcoal. For all I know, it tastes like the burgers and brats were just cooked up in a crock-pot.....no wonder when I say COME OVER FOR A GRILL OUT he and his wife are there in moments!

The grill at the studio is gas, and it does make pretty good burgers. But I think thats due more to me making the burgers with the ground pepper, hot-sauce, garlic, minced onion, and thyme rather than riggs complaining that he is cooking "Meatball burgers" that adds to the gas bill at the end of the month!

Fuzzy!

If you read this, you will be proud! Tonight on the grill I did pork tenderloin, marinated in olive oil, garlic, thyme, black pepper and hot sauce! did the asparagus boat, and in addition, did red chillies, garlic cloves, and shallots on a skewer to top the tenderloin with!! BY JOVE the meal could have been on a betty crocker cover!!! 44 degrees did not discourage me! CANT WAIT TILL I'M DOING THIS in 70 degree weather!!!

When we camp out we always use charcoal, its just the right thing to do! But I have perfected grilling at home with gas and mesquite wood chips.

man, maybe I have my idea of gas grilling all wrong! I used to have these rocks that the propane heated and that was that. How you supposed to add mequite to the gas-grilling experience? I woulda thought that woulda blew my gas grill up?

Has gas grilling evolved in the past decade? if so, somebody tell my buddy Mot, with his O so mediocre gas-grill food parties?

Don't care about grilling.  That's the husband's realm.  The eating is my realm....

My friend, you have definately not had a good gas grilling experience! You can usually go to to your nearest Hardware Hank or other Hardware store and they sell all kinds of gas grill additives, the mesquite chips come in a bag that looks like shaved wood chunks. It all depends on the type of grill you have, but you can either set the chips on the upper grill or if you really liked that pure mesquite flavor go ahead and put them right down with the ceramic bricks.

You can eat the finished product Pambo, but like any other piece of bark or wood I PROBABLY wouldn't recomend it.

I'd say it depends on the food that's being cooked. They don't show it on PBS anymore, but JD, I still recommend Barbecue U. He usually uses charcoal, but he'll tell you what things are better to grill on gas. He's got at least 5 grills just on the set. JD, you'd be in heaven.

I must be the odd ball here. I don't like the taste of charcoal, but then again I eat whatever hubby cooks (usually). I don't like anything that has any burn to it either. So I really don't fit in with his family in that area. Hubby said he knew it was time for dinner when the smoke alarm went off.

It has been a long time since the charcoal days in our family. I have to admit that charcoal gives it better flavor, but the propane is more convienent. I did not do dinner on the grill last night as it was only around 40-45 degrees when I arrived home.

But I am proud of you JD. You should have taken a picture. It probably looked as good as my barbeque chicken, asparagus and potatoes on the grill last week.
