New additions

I'm listening to all of these new songs JR spent his weekend adding. I've don't recognize most of the titles, so it's all in fun.

I'm glad Riggs added new stuff, and I'm glad you're open to checking out new stuff.  That's one really cool thing about the people on this station.  Some people just want to hear the same stuff over & over.

We have a classic rock station in my town, and I swear to God, if you turn it on for about an hour, you will hear exactly the same stuff you heard any random hour in 1984.  And it's not just the same artists over & over - it's the same songs!  They could at least go deeper into these artists' catalogs!  Like they'll always play the same 5 Led Zeppelin songs, and the same 5 Pink Floyd songs, and the same 5 WHO songs,  it's exhausting!

I look forward to hearing your or anyone's reviews on songs you're just now experiencing for the first time.  To me, that is the best!

I agree- it is fun to share our tastes! It really has changed the station for the better!

I know that what I like about this station is the variety. I will hear the same 5 songs in a half hour on the reg FM stations except for one that sorta compares to this station. I know that I have found songs on here that I've never heard before that I now Love! Sometimes we get stuck in a rut too and that's sometimes why I don't request- because I can't think of something out of the ordinary.

I think we have that same classic rock station here in Nashville.  My husband listened to it for 20 years, came home one day and said I guess I'm getting old, I don't like the top 40 and I'm tired of the classic rock, I'm going country.  He's been there ever since.

First, Coolio on the comments. I'm putting together a four page newsletter/flyer to drop off at area laundromats and stuff, I may use some of your comments in it as testimonials, so if you have anything else please say it.

Second, I agree COMPLETELY about the variety. I've gotten squemish lately about it because our audience has dwindled by about 60 - 70% in four months. I know it's in part due to the changes at Live365, but I have to beleive it's a lot of people that just don't want to go from Glen Campbell to Judas Preist to Paul Anka to Paula Abdul to Kenny Rogers.

So we've kind of struggled over the direction to take the station.

But the one thing that has given me comfort is the fact we have about 25 HARD CORE listeners who TRULY appreciate music, without trying to label it and divide it.

I've always said there's only two genres. Good Music and Bad Music.

In my opinion Rap is bad music. Everything else is good music

As much as there is a ton of 80s music, I think we would still become tired of listening to the same stuff. I am sure part of the dwindling is due to the man taking away access. More and more are catching up to it.

Hey, we were an 80's only station for two years and I can tell you I WAS GETTING SICK OF IT.

I loved the 80's, but there's only so many times you can hear LIKE A VIRGIN before you take a clawhammer to your own ear drums.

Are you worried our requests are running your audience off?

If that IS the case and they are running off, then they:

  1. don't know what they are missing
  2. haven't really gave the station a chance
  3. don't know what they want to hear yet
  4. moody

Before I was a forum member I listened off & on. I would think I really don't know some of these songs and would try to find another station. But the road always led back to FFR because it is THE BEST! I became familiar with most of the songs and often know who they belong to and I smile thinking of that person.

I still like hearing '80s stuff but not necessarily the same things we've all heard 1000 times.  I agree with Riggs about "Like A Virgin."  Same with some other hits and hair metal stuff.  Every time I listen to an '80s radio show or go to a party I hear "Come On Eileen."  If I hear THAT again I'm going to claw my eardrums out.  I mean, there was so much other good stuff from back then that you never hear.

I did, however, dig hearing the request of Paul Stanley's "Wouldn't You Like To Know Me" that someone requested a little while ago...awesome!

I think we're doing just fine with the requests.  I, myself, try to pick out more obscure stuff when I request.  I'm just a weirdo that way with music anyway (you should see my CD collection)...

When I find myself in a rut, I like to do a search on a random word, like "tonight" or "under" or "talk" or "why" or "girl" or "ever".  It'll  bring up a big list, and often times I'll see some songs I never would've thought to look for or maybe even noticed before on my usual stops.

If I have time, I do that too. Sometimes I just pick crummy words though.

How on earth can somebody NOT like a station because of what they're playing when they can make their OWN requests.  I personally feel like I have my own personal CD collection the size of Tower Records!!

I know our 80's radio station didn't make it here in Nashville because we all got tire of hearing Hall and Oates and Whitney Houston 10 times a day.

I love our variety here at FRR.

PS:  How about a theme day tomorrow.  I was thinking "group/solo".  IE: Van Halen-Sammy Hagar/ Commodores-Lionel Richie/ Police-Sting.  What do you all think?

I SO miss listening.

When I could listen, I really liked the variety.  I'm an old lady but I like almost every music genre (yes, rap & hip hop, too) except country.  I never liked it.  Dismissed it across the board.  But with the variety on FFR, I actually heard country songs I liked.  I learned about (& liked) music that I never would have heard otherwise.

Isn't that really the best part of FFR?  Hearing a bit of the old favorites mixed in with the new?

And by the way..."don'tcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me?"  PCD!

Exactly!  It sounds like an honest plea...with a laugh at the end.  It's a beautiful song & it reminds me of me.
