What is currently on your desktop?

I don't ever remember going over this one with you guys.  Personally, I only get around to changing mine every month or two.

VERY nice!  I am predictable, too.  Mine is currently Isaac Hanson.  (I can't get it to copy for you guys, but it's a really good picture...)

Right now, here on my XP laptop, I have the Orion Nebula as taken from the Hubble telescope. There are some pretty nice wallpapers at hubblesite.org.

I change mine pretty often.

My two Linux desktops have Linux wallpapers on them.

That one is our girl, Sami. I've also posted pics of our boy, Jack, here before.

Red Dwarf is a british sci-fi comedy from the late 80's into the 90's. It's about Dave Lister, the lowest ranking person on Red Dwarf, a space mining ship. He cleans out the vending machines. He works with Arnold Rimmer, the 2nd lowest ranking person on the ship, but Rimmer has been trying for years to be an officer, he just can't pass the tests. They hate each other. Lister is a bum, Arnold is anal about everything. Lister gets busted for bringing a cat on board, and is given the choice between handing over the cat (which would've been killed) or spending 18 months in suspended animation without pay. He choses the 18 months and hides the cat in the hold. While in suspended animation, there is a radiation leak on the ship which kills everyone. The computer keeps him in suspended animation until the radiation is fully dissapated, 3 million years later. Now, he's stuck out in space, 3 million years away from earth, with a humanoid creature that descended from his cat (the cat was pregnant), the computer, and a hologram chosen by the computer that Lister spent the most time with: Rimmer. It's hilarious, and kinda B-movie! We've been getting the shows on DVD, and I'm addicted.

OMG!  I'd never heard of that before, but it sounds like a lot of fun!

Sorry Pip, I love it! Part of the reason I think it's so great is that it's so B-movie though, too.

That's the same little guy dancing in my signature - only there he is dressed in his dog suit. He's the sidekick for Invader Zim in the short-lived Nickelodeon show about an alien sent to Earth thinking he's on a mission to annihilate the planet, when really his race sent him there to get him out of their hair because he's completely incompetent. Exciting, eh?

Mine is very boring... medium blue background obscured by shortcuts to the applications I use on a regular basis, Excel spread sheets, and Word documents.  Can ya tell I'm a network engineer??

I had a coworker who hated ever having anything on his desktop. So, whenever he left his computer unattended, I would replace his desktop with a picture of something weird or just obscene and put a full screen window of something up, such as his email, so he wouldn't see it right away.

That reminds me MZ- do not take off for a two days in our office- EVERYTHING will be different! We put funny sounds that start when you boot up your computer or open programs, delete icons and put goofy stuff on their desktops!

I'd only be mad if you moved or deleted my shortcuts, I've got quite a few, and they are specifically organized on my desktop. The rest of it, I'll have to keep in mind for the next time someone is out...

Ya when you think about it- it is a pretty horrible thing to do- especially since most of the people in my office are clueless about how to get it back to normal. But it has really been fun. Usually we just mess with the screensavers- but we have been more evil- depends on who it is and why they are out. Vacations spell trouble!

Of course you can always just wipe their system clean and install Linux on it. That's always a hoot!

That makes me think of a story I read not long ago.

This large office had switched everything to Linux. Their IT guy was let go under less than ideal conditions. On his way out, he recompiled a custom kernel onto each machine and set it so that every few seconds the CD tray would continually open and close. Imagine 25 computers in a a large office with the constatnt "rrrrrr" sound of the CD trays opening and closing all day long until they could get a new guy in to recompile all the kernels.

Much more high tech than the Sponge Bob theme playing when you boot your computer!
