RE: Songs that bring back memories

NEIL SEDAKA – LAUGHTER IN THE RAIN:  I remember when I was a kid, I'd just begun to make friends with this girl, Debbie, and our parents took us to the drive-in.  We were allowed to lie on top of the car – not the hood, the ROOF - during the movie, which I thought was the coolest.  And this is the song we sang all day that day.  It kept going through my head.  This song still makes me feel all warm & happy.  (Which it would anyway, regardless of the memory – What a great corny song!!!)

I remember how blown away I was by Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody...It was the first album I ever bought...it was so different from anything that was on the radio at that time...and Freddie Mercury...what a voice.

I purchased that album with the Beatles Abbey Road album because I liked the song "Something" on it.

To this day these bands are still two of my favorites.

MEAT LOAF – HEAVEN CAN WAIT:  One memory of this song is: I was sitting outside of a teenage function with this really cute boy who I liked a lot.  And someone was playing this, and I was (of course) singing along.  When I hit the high note at the end, his head snapped toward me, and he said “Wow!”  I was really psyched that I impressed him!

MUPPETS - RAINBOW CONNECTION:  I remember when I met Paul Williams, I had him sign my sheet music of this song, and he told me Kermie was the nicest celebrity he ever had the privilege of working with.  : )

Coverdale Page - Waiting for You

I remember sitting in my room, not wanting to be around my parents, listening to this song while staring out at the night sky. It was a very transcendental moment.

New Kids On The Block - I'll Be Loving You Forever

Around the this time I was babysitting my neice & nephew during the summer. I practically brainwashed my neice with this music. She was still learning to talk. She started singing this song and another song that isn't on the request list! It was awesome! I also got her to say "I love you Uncle Jordan!" LOL! She is graduating this year and she remembers this too!

DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince - Parents Just Don't Understand

I was at my first dance and they played this song. I was like the only person there who really knew this song. I was totally into it and yelling to them about the funny video it had. Then I yelled "What's wrong with you people?Don't you ever watch BET!" LOL!

A memory based on this song:  Skid Row being interviewed on MTV - I believe they were in the studio doing a top 20 countdown type of thing.  And they'd said one of their songs was bumped from the #Whatever spot by NKOTB, and they were all like "Yuck!"  And Sebastian sang in a really high voice "I'll be lovin' you for-ever!"  It was cute.

I'm glad you added that last part, because I was wondering myself!

I just heard one on my way to lunch. You're the One for Me - Tracy Chapman

I'm kind of a goody two shoes, I've always been more mature than other people my age, career minded, etc. My husband is a hippy, a rebel, and an artist at heart. So when we were dating, my friends and family didn't like him (they still may not, but I don't care.) The first time I heard this song, we were in the car together, and it instantly reminded me of him.

"Some say you're crazy
Say that you're no good
Say your family's cursed with bad blood
But I think you're cute and misunderstood
And I wouldn't change you if I could
***
Some say you're bitter
Think you're mean
Uncouth untamed and unrestrained
But I think you're sensitive and sweet
Stay as you are don't change a thing
***
Some say you're bawdy
Wicked and wild
A restless useless juvenile
But I think you're funny and I like your smile
Want to be with you want you to stay awhile
***
Some say you're bad
A bad bad seed
You love to play with fire you love gambling
But I know what you love and I know what you need
And I like it when you play with me
***

***Let'em talk you down
Call you names
My mind's made up
It ain't gonna change
I'm sure in my heart
Happy and free
You're the one you're the one
You're the one for me"

I loved that song! My stepdad was just coming into my life, and I didn't want him there, and this song was perfect for the way I was feeling.

LOU GRAMM – MIDNIGHT BLUE:  I remember meeting Lou Gramm a few years back, and saying simply, “Thank you for Midnight Blue.”  I know it was a bit of a dork move, but I meant it, and I’m sure he knew where I was coming from.   : )

"Midnight Blue" memory. We were coming up with names for our fish. We have this blue-purple-black fish that we were trying to name. All of a sudden I said "Midnight"! Hubby thought about it and started singing this song!

So what did you end up calling the fish?

ROXY MUSIC – LOVE IS THE DRUG:  I remember being backstage with KIX this one night, and Steve Whiteman was telling us about the first time he ever experienced a Roxy Music concert, and he was singing this song like Bryan Ferry, followed by an exaggerated imitation of his initial reaction.  As usual, he was HILARIOUS!

Well, how could you not?

I once had fish, which I named after members of Rainbow:  Joe Lynn & Roger.

ELVIS PRESLEY – I WANT YOU, I NEED YOU, I LOVE YOU:  I remember seeing a Peter Tork solo show (I believe it was my 2nd), and he told this wonderful story about how he was raised on classical music, and his family snubbed rock & roll, but then on this one fateful day, he heard something that changed his life forever.  And it was this song!  And obviously, he became hooked on rock & roll.  He then performed the song, complete with sneers & hip movements, which we all laughed & screamed for – it was so cute & funny!  Afterwards, I told him how my dad loved this song, and it’s one of my favorites of Elvis’ too, and he put his arm around me, and I was all nervous/excited.

REO SPEEDWAGON – ROLL WITH THE CHANGES: I remember being at my first REO concert as a teenager, and we rushed the stage, so we were right up front.  And during this song, Bruce Hall sang to me, and I was so happy!  Then a couple of years ago, while backstage at an REO concert, I told him about that.  God knows why!  MY GOD!  I’m giving you all of my dork moments!!!  I swear, I am usually very calm & cool while in the presence of greatness…  Ah, what the hell – I got a nice Bruce Hall hug out of it!

ZEBRA – HE’S MAKING YOU THE FOOL:  I remember being backstage talking to lead singer / guitarist, Randy Jackson, who I've been in love with since the age of 15 or something.  He told us about an upcoming show they were gonna be playing, and I said "Hey - Wink & I'll be there," which was really corny, because it's a line from this song (Goes “No matter when you call / No matter what you say / Wink & I’ll be there”) and he smiled, totally “getting” the reference, and I remember thinking “What a dork I am – how embarrassing!!”  But it just fell out of my mouth, ya know?

Lady Strange, you sure do get backstage a lot?????

About 6 yrs ago me and some friends went to a Stone Temple Pilots concert- pretty good show. At one point Weiland jumped off stage into the crowd- woah the commotion, the connection to the audience -yadayadayada- where is he?! Is the spotlight on him ?!

Me and my buddy john were in this seating area about 12 feet above the floor, so we could have some beers & be away from the crowd (we were 30 then,,,almost too mature for this kids stuff...) and then all of a sudden the spotlight shines on me and johnny and then here is weiland in front of us, singing to us. We were both like (snicker....) you don't have to sing to us weiland, you can get down now. My other buddy Tom shrieked like a little girl, wrapped up in the "rock and roll" glory of it all. I will NEVER let him forget that as long as he lives!

REFRESHMENTS – BANDITOS:  We recently went to see a Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers show (That’s the singer & drummer from this band.)  And we were standing up front, and Roger was paying a lot of attention to my best friend on this night, which was of course, much fun!  And he sang one of our favorite lines right to her:  “And you can look deep in my eyes, like I was a supermodel.  Uh-huh.”  He’s a cutie, and it was a great moment!

I loved doing this, by the way.  We should do this again!

Queen - Bohemeian Rhapsody

Memory: Me & my sister driving down the road when this came on. We both starting singing it and acting out the scene in Wayne's World! When we were done we laughed so hard that we were crying! I think I even ended up spitting on the dash! LOL!
