All- I want to be honest.


The pressures of amature internet radio fame, the pressures of trying to sell punk/goth and then jazz on an all-request station, with its roots deeply entrenched in 80's pop, & then on the challenging time spot of Sunday evenings, up against Simpsons/ Tony Soprano has had its toll on me. I am a quiet, private man, and I tire of my fame.


While I would never believe that I would tire of babes with nose ring thingys and/or tubas ringing my doorbell at all hours of night, (too often with their skinhead boyfriends...) the endless sea of wine, womens, and song; the constant eye of local underground rags trying to see the light of day of being published by using me as the lead feature hip-headline story, & the endless sea of free e-mails, Mp3s, virus-filled spam.....I am tired. I have not lost my love of all this, but I am feeling a bit jaded. I need a break from this limelight, this amature radio internet fame. Its not an easy life, but it is a life I love. I am just tired. So tired.


So, I am taking a vacation for the next 2 weeks. I need to get in touch with my feelings. I need to pamper myself. I need to be away from this limelight. If heading to the studio most Sundays for 3 yrs is MY version of a tour, I have been on tour sooo long. It has turned my home into one big hotel room with a kitchennette (or whatever)  in Anytown, USA. I hope you understand.


This coming Sunday, I will be in Chicago. I need to change the backdrop a bit- visit the great history of this town, the great museums and restaurants (rock-n-roll mcdonalds), get some sun in the windy city. I need to go somewhere where hopefully I am not recognized.


And the following Sunday, I revisit a band that made me want to be a dj in the first place- The English Beat is in town!! Those fans who know ME, the REAL me, know that I have wanted to see this band for 20 yrs, and here's my chance. I look forward to revisiting the great music of this band, and recapturing some of the energy of my youth!


So, I will be off the air for 2 weeks. But I promise you, when I return, I will be chompin at the bit to get back to the microphone! To smack you over the head with the best music ever-created. That is who I am, & that is what I do!!!

Just no more that 2 weeks, or you might find yourself replaced. I heard Sparky preparing his acceptance speach in the shower this morning.  


3 years wow thats alot of Sundays. You deserve a long vacation.

are you calling us 3rd class "fans" of your tour?


So are you going to be traveling the whole time or are you going to lock yourself in the house and hide? Maybe take a trip out here and camp for a week, the squirrels might have heard of you but certainly won't know the face.

oh no no no! my fame and its level (or lack there-of) is due ENTIRELY too www.live365.com I simply wanted to let my fans (those who've stuck through thick-n-thin) in spite of live365 bringing windows 3.2 technology to an XP world, that I love them but I need a break!!....Live365 is like:


-bringing a 40 watt bulb to a tanning salon- & saying "gimme the money!"


-PLEASE!!! THE LACK OF BRIGHT LIGHTS AND ATTENTION MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I MUST GO!! PEDRO!! WHEN COMES THE PUBLIC BUS!?! I SHY OF THIS ATTENTION!! I MUST LEAVE!

probably not this sunday dave- I know riggs has a grill out to go to; things will most likely be on auto-pilot- unless there's a way for the software to automatically feed the rerun at the right time- riggs?


The following Sunday, I have invited Riggs in to host the jazz show- still too early to tell if he can or will, I think stuff like that is best left to the jazz pro (snicker)- but he hosted it one time before and did a pretty good job wingin it!

well, when riggs did it the last time, he was like a kid in a candy store- except all the candy was wrapped in brown bags, so the best he could do was hope he grabbed a good bag to play.

maybe I will do an hour tribute to Blue Note artists during the next Jazz 101. They are THE jazz label nowadays. Gene Harris, Art BLakey, Norah Jones, Karl Denson, some Coltrane...all with releases on the Bluenote label...
