i just need to vent

tomorrow is the last day of school.  it's a "fun" day -- no class, field day, yearbook signing, water baloon toss (because there is no fighting in school anymore), snacks.... but my kid doesn't get to attend   today he went on the a/b honor field trip to an amusement park where he had tons of fun and purchased a bunch of junk.  one of the cool things he bought was a pair of "popper balls" -- you know when you strike them together they pop and spark and smell like sulpher.  well, after school he was popping them on the bus and the mean bus lady called the cops who removed him from the bus and called the middle school principal who told my son not to bother going to school tomorrow and that if he showed up, he would have me go pick him up.  okay, getting kicked out the last day of school is not what burns my ars; it's how the situation was handled.  as adults, it is obvious to us why poppers shouldn't be played with on the bus, right?  none of the adults bothered to explain to the kid WHY -- "don't bother coming to school tomorrow....."  i called the school; not to beg for them to let him go for "fun day", but to inquire why none of the adults explained the WHY and CONSEQUESCES.  "well, i assumed he would know," is what the principal told me.  "and what made you come to that conclusion," i asked.  <silence>  "i don't think it's fair that you suspend him from school without explaining WHY," i continued.  "well, if you would like to bring him in tomorrow, i will be happy to spend some time with him and explain WHY," he responded.  "no, i'm not going to take him in if he can't stay at school, but he's here with me, and you can explain to him right now."  and he did, and now my son understands WHY, but he still can't go for fun day.  i guess i'm just disgusted that these people want our children to be responsible and held accountable, but they don't give reasons or expalination for the punishment they are handing out!  okay, now i feel better.  i just needed to let out my silent scream! thanks for listening....

No need to apologize to me, this forum has been great, free therapy. Even if no one else cares or responds, it is great to just get it out.

But I do feel your pain and am sorry that happened. How stupid to call the cops! What did they do with him? Drive him home themselves? She should have just dealt with him and shared with why it was wrong and if he did it again, then call the school. What a waste of police time. She needs a new job- gimme a break- one day left.

I will say a prayer for your family and you, I know this must have stressed you out in several ways.

That's what we are hear for DS! No matter or big or small of a problem! I'm sorry about the situation. Unfortunately in today's society all kids are guilty automatically no matter what. They are labeled from the get-go but at the same time are expected to have common sense! Hello they are kids still growing and learning! Go into anyone's past and you will find some not-so-cool times. They definitely should have explained things to him.

And what's the point of expelling him for one day for a couple of rocks, not to mention calling the cops? Talk about blowing things out of proportion. The bus driver should've just taken them away and given them either to you, or back to him on the last ride home. What's the point of punishing the kid if he doesn't even know what he did wrong?

Sometimes I do wonder if some people remember what it's like to be kids. I've had an idea in the back of my mind for a while to start a Teen Advocacy Group. It's not something I can do right now, but I would like to some day. I think there's some teachers (and principles, counselors, etc.) out there that aren't in the job because they love kids, but because they want power and control over someone else.

I totaly understand what your saying DS, there was no need to do what they did, they just needed to explain what he was doing was wrong, not go totally overboard and call cops and whatever else, thats just plain stupid if you ask me.
