In high school, in my grade, was a girl who had the same last name as me. She had blue eyes too, and many people thought we were brother and sister if not twins even. So we played up on that for all years "hey bro" / "hey sis".  I found this assumption only annoying when one old teacher that we both had would tell me "hey, your sister blah blah...." after we both had corrected him about a dozen times. He just didn't get that were weren't related, all 4 yrs.

In middle school i tended to be confused with this other girl Carey. I always thought that she was prettier than me so it didn't bother me. But I did get in an argument about whether or not I had a class with someone! I was like no I was across the hall in shop class. I wasn't in choir that year guys! That was Carey! It was kind of funny.

I was generally a good kid/honor student. My brother (5 yrs older than me) was and average student, pretty non-descript.  My sister (4 yrs older than me) was the h#ll raiser. I only got in trouble this one time... my first day of high school. There I am, minding my own business walking through the library to get to my 5th hour class which is in a room off of the library.  The librarian... a short woman, permanently stuck in the 70's, wearing a (not kidding) polyester jump suit, with a speach impediment... yells at me, "Luh-Luh-Luh-Luh-LAURA! You are suh-suh-suh-suspended from the luh-luh-luh-library this suh-suh-suh-semester!" Now, all day long as the teachers have been taking roll I have been getting a bunch of static about how my sister was... so I replied, "Muh-Muh-Muh-My nuh-nuh-nuh-name is Muh-muh-muh-Michele. I'm Luh-luh-luh-Laura's suh-suh-suh-sister." 5 minutes into my 5th hour class, I'm called to the vice principal's office... I thought dude was going to have a stroke trying to suppress his laughter while telling me it's not nice to mock Ms. Abarr.

about 8 yrs ago I was working 12 hr shifts 7 pm to 7 am, and then heading to the university to finish up my degree. wednesday was my last day of work for the week, and I had no classes that day. So when I got home, I'd have a few brewskis at 8 am (am becomes your pm when you work third shift, its crazy) and watch easy on the brain stuff -teletubbies (they showed the feature films twice which was actually cool stuff like para-sailing or going up in a big balloon.....mr rogers......how I wanted to live in THAT neighborhood....but anyways. I had gotten into the tradition of making crock-pot southern ribs before heading off to bed at noon. just ribs, sauce, onion, and kraut. I did this not only to have a good meal waiting for me when I woke up at 8 pm, but to actually wake up to the smell of food instead of that damned alarm. usually about 8 pm I could tell by smell that the ribs were ready and I would wake up and feast.

The last time David Bowie was in town, he performed "I'm afraid of Americans". I thought that was pretty bold and funny. Nobody took it personally (even those who probably should have), but that song just rocked!

All this recent talk about The Bangles made me feel the need to share this memory.

When the Bangles came out and were all that and I was younger, obviously, me and my friends would pretend we were them. I had microphone stands, a guitar- keyboard, and some sort of horrible sounding guitar. We would act out performances. Sometimes we fought over who we were going to be. I usually wanted to be Michael. That is all.

Back then she had the red tinted hair. She had the deeper voice.

I took lead sometimes too.

Funny Woo! My friends and I were Motley Crue in the Lip Syncing competition in the 5th grade. We won for best costume and performance. We did Smoking in the Boys Room. We practiced for two whole weeks watching the video.
