I think divorcees should have visiting rights to see their cats and dogs! ----
MADRID (Reuters) - A Spanish court has ruled that dogs should not be treated like children with allocated visiting rights when it comes to divorce cases.
A Spanish man was originally given permission by his wife to visit Yako, a golden retriever, when they separated but he appealed to a lower court when she stopped him from seeing the dog. The court ruled in his favor and set up visiting hours.
But the provincial court of Barcelona then overturned that decision, saying it set a precedent for pets to be treated like children in divorce cases.
"This sort of litigation is rare, given that common sense and reason dictate that people should not take such cases to court," said court papers obtained by Reuters Friday.
to me it sounds crazy... but i can definately see this man's point of view. to some people, their animals are their children. our dog is a big black lab who thinks he's a boy. he is an inside dog. used to sleep in the bed with me and my husband until i was big pregnant and we were shoving eachother for space (now he sleeps on the floor!) i love my dog, but i wouldn't fight over him. i'd just give him to my husband (the dog likes him better anyway).
my husband works with a young man who just finished enclosing his back porch so that his dog would have his own bedroom and a place to be out of the weather if it storms or snows.
but yes, animals do have seperation anxiety like children, so some kind of compromise should be taken into consideration when people love their pets like children...

When my hubby got divorced his dog who lived with his ex had some issues. When her soon-to-be-husband moved in Nugent decided that his clothes and such were the new bathroom! I loved it! It was nothing personal. He was the nicest guy but I liked the tantrum!

Mz's cats are her children, and her and MrHartz already have an agreement worked out if they should ever seperate (they're good about planning for stuff like that, which is why I think they'll always be together), in which Mz would get custody and MrHartz would have visitation rights.
