GrisWebs Family Vacation (pictures within)

Here we are at the end of day one of our semi-vacation. I say semi because I can't get away from work, just working from different locations.

We got here in Lincoln Nebraska about 1:00pm. I had a customer with a server issue that I was trying to help him fix between stops. Finally that was resolved about 6:00pm so I could quit worrying about that.

Our first stop was to see my friend that works at the University of NE. Stopping here was on our schedule to go to "Morrill Hall" to see the dinosaur bones. We spent about two hours here.

Here's the boy outside Morrill Hall. He's got his ears plugged because there was a work crew jack hammering just on the other side of those bushes.

The next few are just random bones shots.

I caught the boy off guard while he was excavating for his own fossils.

And finally "Memorial Stadium" . . . home of our beloved Huskers.

After that, we ate supper with friends, visited two more households of friends, drove around and showed the boy the three different places where we lived here, and got ice cream at Dairy Queen.

RIght now, Mrs Web and the boy are crashed hard in the other bed and I have this one all to myself. I think I'll call it a night too as we have a big day tomorrow planned at the zoo!

We survived day two at the Omaha zoo. We spent about 5.5 hrs at the zoo and still didn't see everything. The boy was getting cranky and tired of walking so we called it quits and came back to the motel.

We came back here, chilled out a while and are now going to our best friends house. We'll go out with them for supper and spend the evening there. The last time we were with them, my friend and I stayed up until about 2:30 throwing darts. They have to work tomorrow so we won't be that late tonight though.

I'll probably post some zoo pics when we get back here to the motel for the night.

Zoo Pics ahead.

We started in the aquarium at JR's cousins. I couldn't get good pics in the aquarium. Use the flash, and I'd just get reflection off the glass. With no flash, it was too dark and blury. The Omaha zoo has a penqguin cam HERE if you are interested. The workers were in with the penguins when we went through the first time.

Here is one of the better penguin shots I got:

The underwater tube is the (I think) coolest part of the Omaha zoo. The sharks are as big as 6' long. They just swim up and over the walk-through tube. The tube is about 40' long.

This turtle was about 2.5' across:

We even got to see Ray! Smile Ray!

This big cat was from the New Orleans zoo. They had four big cats and hired some of the New Orleans zoo workers:

This wasn't one of the New Orleans cats, but he was nice and close for a good picture:

The next couple pics, I know JD will like:

The Polar Bears are cool:

The Jungle is my 2nd favorite exibit. Here are some monkeys from the jungle:

I took three pics for a panarama and pasted them together. To get a scale of size, about 1/3 of the way from the left, is a person in an orange shirt on the walkway on the other side of the Jungle building.

This family of monkees had to show their ID's to be able to get out. They were almost kept on exibit:

The last thing we did was the "Desert Dome":

I was impressed by the structure, but didn't get a lot out of the inside. Mostly lizzards, a few snakes and some destert plants:

And that was some of our day at the Omaha zoo. A good time was had by all.

Tomorrow: The Lincoln Children's Museum, and maybe a movie (Cars) and some shopping. My best friend here has had a Harley for a couple years . . . they just told us tonight that they are getting a new one and they are picking it up tomorrow afternoon so we'll have to go back there tomorrow to see the new ride.

Day three complete.

Today we spent the morning at the Lincoln Children's Museum and then later went to see the "Cars" movie. First, I will say that "Cars" is a very good movie. It is done very well and has a good plot and story line to it as well. Two WebGuy thumbs up.

The Children's museum is a very fun place for . . . well . . . children. There is a lot of stuff for them to climb and play on and even a few things that teach too. It is a very good place for imaginations. For example, there is a room set up as a kid-sized vet clinic where the kids can help out some sick stuffed animals. There are lots of similar themed rooms and activities. Here's a few:

Drive a fire truck

Be a motorcycle cop

Be a pilot

Talk to dad across the room with a big dish

Be a prairie dog with dad

That's the end of the pics. Tomorrow we will sleep in and maybe do a little shopping on the way out of town. We might stop and Grand Island and do more shopping there. The main thing is that we are back home by 5:00 to get the dog out of the kennel.

Thanks for sharing in our little break. It was mostly focused around the boy and activities for him, but we had fun too.

Looks like it was fun! We're going to the Indy Children's Museum for our anniversary. I've heard that it's just as fun for adults, and hey, we're kids at heart anyway!

We are home.

We got everything brought in and I went and got the dog out of the kennel. She is VERY happy to be home and the rest of us are pretty happy to be home too.

My best friend from Lincoln will be here tomorrow. They bought a new Harley and are leaving on in for vacation next week end. He has to get 1,000 miles on it by Tuesday so it can have a 1,000 mile tune up before they take off. 1,000 miles on a motorcycle by Tuesday will keep him busy the next few days.
