Italy V USA

Actioned Packed football in Germany

On 22 minutes Italy went ahead with a goal following a free kick....poor defending from the USA team: 0 - 1

On 28 minutes USA went ahead.... They out a ball in from thei right wing and a hapless Italian defender accidentally kicked it in: 1 - 1

Shortly after that Di Rossi smashed an elbow into McBride's face and was given a straight Red card - sent off despite peotesting his innocence (THe slow notion replays demonstrated the diabolical nature of his elbow Mcbride went off for some pitchside treatment and to put a clean blood-free shirt on and re-joined the fray.

The half also saw a great strike from Mastroeni for USA whic almost dipped into the net but went the wrong side of the crossbar and USA were denied.

Just before half time Mastroeni was also red carded for a late tackle...which I thought was a harsh decision as I have seen worse go unpunished.

Both managers will be doing their half time talk now... Lots to do and an exciting second half awaits us.

Half Time: Italy 1 - USA 1

Ok so they came out for the 2nd half....and the USA just had Pope get his second yellow card......so he gets sent off and USA are fown to 9 men.

(Only the 3rd or 4th time in world cup history that there have been 3 sendings off in a World Cup match)

No no no...USA are doing ok considering they have a man less - they just scored now but it was diasallowed for offside

Mcbride also had a great shoton goal too...

italy now have a man injured and off the pitch.... if he doesn't make it back on they have no more substitutions available

problems will come soon...they have so much more ground to cover they will possibly tire before the Italians....

Don't knock your team...they are battling bravely!!! They can hold Italy to a draw with luck

Come on USA!!!

We can live with that! I caught the last 15 minutes or so! Pretty good for only 9 guys.

USA v Ghana should be your easiest game ...you still could go through to the last 16... You need to win agains Ghana and need Italy to beat the Czechs

Next game on Thursday 1500 my time...0900am FFT (Freeze-Frame Time)

WHAT!

You can't have a frickin' tie! Isn't there a sudden death playoff or something! I hate games that can end in a tie!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Nice one Sparky - That's the spirit.

I was well into that match! I leapt off my seat when they scored in the second half but it was disallowed for offside

My second star man - DeMarcus Beasley - came on in the second half and injected some pace up front

the only game in the WORLD where a tie is something to celebrate.

What was that Vince Lombardi once said about ties ?  somethin bout a close relative...

PS- Johnny Benson WON the race at Michigan .  Mark Martin was 1st LOSER .

A defeat would have sent the team home after their next game, but they bravely fought for that point and are still in the comp

It was a tough match. The US was treated harshly. That referee will most likely not be refing another game in this World Cup. THe guys fought and played the hardest they could. It is a shame they did not have a real opportunity to win the game. They had opportuni9ties but couldn't quite finish. They played much better and more intelligently than they did against the Chezs on Monday. And thanks to Ghana's stunning upset, the US still has a chance to advance out group play if they win against Ghana and Italy can beat the Chezs.

USA! USA! USA!

Go England!

Go Germany!
