I bought a new Ford Escort in 1994, and at no extra cost, supposedly, I got a big old cell phone like that if I wanted. I was going to go cash in the certificate for the phone, but then they started talking in terms of per minute use charges, and I forget the rates, the connection fee etc etc.....and I turned it down. Seemed like a racket. And I thought a big boxy phone like that would just take up too much room in the car!
