We had a good day for flying kites. I went to the Kearney, NE airport for their annual "fly in". Last year, it was a big deal. This year, the airport stuff was really weak. They just had a few small planes sitting around. Last year they had the B17 rides, a couple military helicopters, and many planes, ultra lites, etc coming and going all day. I don't know why it was so quiet.
We had fun though. We had really nice wind and it wasn't too hot. Only a few of us kiters showed up, but it was enough to put on a little show.
Here's the "social area" with all our wind socks and stuff to add some color and activity to where we were hanging out when not flying. My big smiley face kite is on the ground as the wind was shifting toward the power lines.
Woo should like this one . . . this is a vampire bat kite that belongs to a friend from the same town I live in.
This is my "Wind Wheel". It is about 7' in diameter and it slowly spins. It is hooked to a 20' telescoping fiberglass pole.
This is one of the kiters from Kearney teaching a girl how to fly. There really is a girl in front of him.
The rest are all pics taken from my camera hooked to the kite line of my big smiley face kite.
This is looking south from the airport. The big brown building with the gray roof in the middle of that farthest clump of activity is the "Cabella's" store. They only have a couple stores but they sell gear for hunting, fishing, camping, and clothing all over the world. If you guys are hunters, you've probably have seen "Cabella's" catalogs.
This is just looking down toward the main airport building. Those little planes out front are about all they had on display.
This is looking further North where you can see the North end of the runway.
In the middle of this one is a guy on a 3-wheeled cart with a wind sail on it. Out on the hard surface, he could go pretty good.
And finally, I had to include a picture of me. There at the verry bottom, is me standing in front of our van where I had the kite tied that was lifting the camera. I was just waiting for it to take some pics so I could pull it back down to retrieve the camera.
I agree- cool pics, thanks for sharing! I think the wind wheel is really cool too- I thought it was of much bigger scale in the first pic, until you gave us its actual size. But that is really neat. still dig the idea of the cam up there on the kite too!
