Top 10 Please Pull that Song List

Now that JR's gone and started pulling bad songs from the play list, I think it's time we give him our most d picks.  I made the mistake of requesting Dionne Warwick's "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" one time.  It was HORRIBLE!!

I used to sing and play that on the piano as a kid.  I think I could do better than her version.  Who sang it in the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"?

Her version does this really weird left to right speaker switching which is very distracting from the song.  Anyway that would be my most wanted song removed.  What about you guys?

The pace has been set. ONE SONG will be removed from the playlist every four years.

I think it would just be a mess if we were actually to start pulling songs. Although we all love the station we each have our own music tastes. If we were to eliminate songs that so & so doesn't like it, we would just be eliminating some other person's favorites.

I agree completely woo.

It was different when we were an 80's station and we had a limited playlist anyway, but right now we have our basic rules (no rap, no heavy metal) etc. Other than that anything goes.

My general rule has been that I may not add something in the first place if it's really out there, but once I do add it I don't want to remove it.

I was looking back over the records and it turns out the only songs I've ever removed are Paul Hardcastle's "19" which received a few complaints because the war had just started in Iraq and people were edgy about the songs content (it's since been put back) and Laurie Andersons "O Superwoman" which I just realized I've not removed TWICE!

It was getting requested daily about 18 months ago and I took it off the list for a month. Now it's off again, but I'll probably re-add it at some point.

If you haven't heard it though, I HONESTLY believe 99 out of 100 people would HATE this song. It's BAAAAAAAAAAD!

You're so funny with this!  It's Laurie Anderson, It's artsy-fartsy,  It's not supposed to be instantly likeable for housewives like Huey Lewis & The News or something.

Oh come on Lady Strange. I have IMMENSE respect for your musical taste. I was just thinking the other day that you seem to be able to find the absolute tiniest bit of talent in someone and shine a light on it. That's an admirable trait.

But let's face it, if some no talent hack beats a stick on a garbage can and records it, that doesn't make it music.

There is the possibility that Laurie Anderson is just a no talent hack. Artsy-Fartsy is really just another word for "NO ONE LIKES THIS UNLESS THEY WANT TO SEEM ARTSY THEMSELVES".

But I'll be fair, I'm putting this song to a vote.

We'll play it and let the poeple decide. If we lose half our listeners after playing it we'll just blame web

I haven't heard it recently, so I don't remember it. But I do remember commenting on it the first time I heard it.

I'm into artsy stuff, I'll give it another try.

Actually, I never said I like the song.

And by the way, there are plenty of things on here that make me cringe; "artists" that I consider "no talent hacks" - I just don't bitch about it, because I don't want to offend anyone, because I know how much  I hate when others give me crap about my loved ones.

Well, either way it's a good trait. That's the reason I won't remove songs, because even though one person hates it someone else probably loves it.

There have been several songs that have been added because a listener has requested them that seemingly have cost us listeners every time they're played. I mean, we see the stats live, and I can tell you that there are certian songs that will cost us 10% of our audience.

You and the rest of the forum are the rarest of music lovers, people that are willing to accept almost anything. Although, even a few of the forum members have admitted to me that they tune out sometimes if the mix is getting annoying to them.

Even though I want to avoid removing songs, I still have to keep the bigger picture in mind. And with the advertiising we're doing right now we have to be careful.

We have 12 listeners tuned in right now via MySpace, these are completely new to our station. If the first two or three songs they hear are too obscure and/or annoying they'll tune out and probably never tune back in, thinking we're not their type of station.
