Well, you know, it's the old "There but for the grace of God go I" concept.

I figure if one day I get married and the woman constantly does things to cause me bodily injury, I don't want anyone to be able to go back over the transcripts and say "YOU THOUGHT IT WAS OK WHEN IT WAS DONE TO YOUR FRIEND SPARKY!"

Just covering my own butt!

I give up! Have your little fun at Sparky's expence, just remember when either of you are dangling from your fingertips from the roof top I won't be the one to save you!

Hey! How'd the hair grow back on his head so fast? Is he using Rogaine?

Poor cat. In one week he's been shaved, nuetered, smacked around with a wooden board full of rusty nails and now for no apparant reason we've dipped his tail in hot wax.

I'm surprised he hasn't turned himself in to the humane society just to get away from us.

And I LIKE SPARKY! I REALLY DO! I'd hate to see what I'd be willing to put the poor guy through if I didn't like him.

Hey Spark, it HAS been a rough week for you huh?

Isn't it nice to know you're not forgotten when you're not around though?

I was gonna watch THE PRODUCERS (you never listen to me ) but I think that's in widescreen, so I'll save it for when the projector is back. Instead I'll watch WHEN A STRANGER CALLS because that's in Full Screen (I hate Full Screen now).

"Full screen" is idiotic.  They should just the "format" "65% view of the movie" or something.

Why even bother making them that way?! Why spend all that time & energy ruining a director's vision?!

I'd turn around and return it. Absolutely refuse to watch it. I wish the big directors would get together & refuse to allow their masterpieces to be chopped up like that. You know, like if Spielberg and Scorcese etc. got together & banned them, the general public (uh-oh - band reference there - now I'm picturing the "Tenderness" video) would realize what they've been missing all these years.

I like the movie HEART & SOULS, and that was one of the first times i really realized how bad the full screen is.

There's a scene where the five of them are walking down a street singing and in the full screen it's just three of them and a couple extra arms in the shot!

The cinematography is such a huge part of a movie and full screen destroys it!

I agree, it's time they band together and say no more. I think now that the widescreen TV is becoming the norm it will be phased out soon anyway.

I'm not gonna bash you - it's probably that you just don't understand.  When they crop or "pan & scan" the movie, you're actually being robbed of seeing parts of the movie.  It's especially obviously missing in big action films like a Star Wars or musicals, where you're trying to watch choreography & you only see some of the dancers.  It's not like Widescreen stretches the movie, it's that "full screen" actually cuts parts out.  I resent part of the movie actually being taken away for me.  It also makes it a lot harder to follow.

Here's an example of GREASE to give you an idea.  http://www.geocities.com/obsessivetougafan/grease.html

Look at the movie "Dragonheart."  Look at the 3rd & 4th pictures down.  You can't even tell what action is happening!  The 8th picture down, you're actually missing one of the characters in the scene all together!

I wouldn't bash you either Woo.

I actually hated widescreen for years because my picture was so much smaller than it was supposed to be I felt like I was getting robbed.

The funny thing is, like LS said, you're ACTUALLY getting robbed on the full screen. I mean, they LITERALLY chop off big chunks of the picture.

To be honest I didn't like letterbox until I got a 36" tv. When I had my 27" the letterbox would reduce the picture to 19" if not smaller and I hated it.

Eventually though you're next TV will be widescreen, because that's all they're gonna make, and if you bought a bunch of Full Screen DVD's you'll be very unhappy with them

But that's why they still make both, because there are a lot of people that still prefer the full screen.

That's only because they don't know better.  Once someone is educated and they understand they're really missing something without, they'll understand.

For those of you who haven't seen "Ghost" yet - Spoiler Alert!

I saw the movie "Ghost" in the theater, and I'm sure you'll remember there is this killer scene in which Molly is talking to the best friend (can't recall his name) who is kind of coming onto her, and telling her lies and about how much he misses Sam (when it's HIS FAULT Sam is dead) & you see the ghost of Sam standing on the side of the room, watching this conversation take place, and it's such an effective scene, because as he's talking to Molly, Sam is just STEAMING, and it's killing him, and it's killing you as the viewer, because there's nothing he can do about it!  Except sit there & watch his hatred grow & fester, and just say "ooooh!!"

A few years ago, I was flipping through channels, and came upon the movie, and this scene.  Cropped, the Sam character is completely CUT OUT of the scene!  All you see is the 2 characters talking, which completely ruins the whole idea!  The scene was like worthless!  It made me crazy!

yes i did. and i did know that somethings were cut. i guess it doesn't bother me as much at this point. but JR did make a good point about once I'm forced to go to widescreen that i will not like my fullscreen dvds that i have. i never paid attention to the cut in ghost though. I saw it in the theater too and have seen it on tv a dozen times but i just didn't remember. i'm sure that if I paid more attention it would. i guess if i'm more aware of what i missed. which you might inform me of.......

Yeah, the "Ghost" scene came to mind, because as I said, when I saw it in the theater, it really affected me - it was so well done, and it's a shame to have the whole scene just thrown away...

To me it's like unplugging one of your speakers, and hearing a producer's mix improperly.  You're only getting a portion of the song...
