Springsteen Tonight on PBS

Just read that a Bruce Springsteen concert will be televised tonight on Great Performances on PBS. It will be from the current Segar Sessions tour.

This tour was in Milwaukee about a month ago, and I did not go see it. It was kind of costly & the E-Street band wasn't there. But the reviews all said it was excellent- all accoustic music with a pretty large band.

Here's a great (and free) chance to see what was missed!

D'oh!

I was almost out of here then I saw this comment.

OK, ONE LAST POST.

I totally agree with you Allycat that concerts on TV usually SUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK! You just can't get into it.

But if you get a projection screen like I did, CONCERTS ROOOOCK! That is my FAVORITE part of the big screen.

The screen is 108 inches so the singers are life size if not bigger, then you crank up the sound as loud as if you were there and I swear to God it comes SOOOOOOOO close to the actual concert experience.

The ONLY thing missing is the beer getting spilled on you by the guy behind you.

If you and Sparky are ever in town you GOTTA stop by for the Meatloaf concert on my big screen. It will blow you away!

Ok. Now bed.

if you can't appreciate telivised concerts, save yourself the money and don't go see them live either. you'd be dissapointed and feel ripped off.

No JD, sorry, but you're wrong on this one.

The thing with a concert is there's an energy in the crowd. 5, 10, 50 thousand people all there for the same reason, because they love the music of the artist.

The music BLASTS through those speakers so loud that you feel it in your heart. You sing along because no one can hear you and quite frankly you're so into it that you don't care if they CAN here you.

It's a shared experience that is like none other and YOU of all people know that with your binder full of ticket stubs.

Watching a concert on a 19" tv, with two tiny speakers that were meant for newscasts and sitcoms, ALONE, is not the same.

I really don't think someone who can't appreciate that would be disappointed with a live concert. I think the REASON they can't appreciate the TV concert is because they compare it to the LIVE concerts they've attended .

That's just my two cents. Plus you know I love any opportunity to tell you I think you're wrong

but riggs, have you not gone to a concert, paid way too much only to have some drunken butthead sing along into your ear? Or puke beer onto your shoes? I feel no need to feel an affinity or brotherhood with any audience. the only audiences I respect any more are at jazz shows. folks there to LISTEN, not be the latest fashionable loud butt-pipe.

Oooooooooh, that way. Yeah, you've got a point.

I misunderstood what you're point was.

You know my policy on concerts, I will only go to see someone I REALLY REALLY want to see and even then ONLY if I can afford the first three rows.

That way, all the buttheads are behind me and I don't notice them so much.

But you're right, I remember two Meat Loaf concerts ago I was way in the back. I didn't want to go but was talked into it. Meat was about 1 inch tall from where I was. I heard the idiots around me more than I could hear him. And I was soaked with other peoples beer, and bruised from getting bumped into for three hours.

That's when I swore off concerts unless I got the good seats.

I love watching concerts on TV.  It's the next best thing!  And for musicians, it's great, because they can see close-up what the players are doing.  In fact, once upon a time, there was even a channel that used to show such concerts.  I think it was called MTV...

I got into a fight in my younger days when I asked the idiot next to me at a G & R concert who sings this? He looked at me as if I was foriegn and said GUNS and Roses! I said well let them sing it then.

A physical fight?

I agree with LS. TV concerts aren't the same as the real thing, but they're the next best thing if you can't be there. I love live music, even if it's just a recorded show on my tv screen. I love DVDs of concerts. (What's funny is that I don't appreciate live CDs, I prefer to see the musicians when it comes to live shows.) Austin City Limits and Soundstage expose me to new artists that I wouldn't have paid the money to go see live, either because I don't have the money, or because I don't know the artist well enough. I've got the Led Zepplin DVD concert box set of concerts that just rock, but I would've never seen because I wasn't even alive then.

TV concerts: the true reality shows.

i missed springsteen last night because my child turned into the devil right after the story on woody guthrie...  that was a good one.  some parts made me cry (not boo hoo, just tears).  i didn't realize that he was so young when he died...
