Last Friday I ran into some people from work at Bastille Days. I did introductions between my friends and the friends I know at work. When I came to Joanna, I completely, completely had a brain fart and her name just would not come to me. It was awkward and embarrasing and I feel terrible about it.


There was no reason for that. I know Joanna. She is very friendly and nice and a burst of sunshine in the office where we work.


So Joanna, I am very sorry. It was a brain-fart. Your name just wouldn't come to me. I don't know why.

At work today I bought in Joanna a real yellow friendship rose and she forgave me.


Remember names has always been a problem for me. Before meetings at client sites I go out of my way to drill names into my brain. That works, but is no good for when I unexpectedly run into someone. I need to work on this.

I'd say! Do you know how many times I'm called the wrong name? My name sounds like another name. So let's say they call me "Boo" instead of "Woo". The worst is when my hubby's family calls me by his ex-wife's name!

My hubby made that mistake ONCE. It really hurt, but I guess in the end I understood- he was used to saying her name and it was not in an intimate moment. I don't have to worry about the hubby's family though they live in Ohio and never saw her anyway.


 


How long have you two been married? How about them- how long were they married Woo?

It will be 5 years in October, but we have been together longer. They were married I think 9 years.

Occasionally. But they are old. And my father-in-law would just say "I've had a stroke you know." That's an ongoing but true joke. Hubby has done it a few times too. But not enough that I've killed him.

It's ok JD, I have the opposite problem, I never forget a name, face or even a voice when I talk to someone on the phone. My problem is I can't remember anything else. Ally will vouche for that.

Very much so, I can go to the store and even if its written down I always forget something. Trouble is I forget where I put the list. Then I find it in my pocket when I get home.

My hubby will attest that EVERY week I make a list and leave it at home in the car. Lucky for me- the writing it down part etches it into my mind and I can visualize it. But I cannot ever remember to bring it into the store!

I am like that too Ruby- everything gets a post it note. but writing it down sort of etches it mentally so that I don't need to usually need to refer to them. I just like them as sort of a back-up just in case.

I try to tell my son to write and rewrite- that it really helps in memorizing things for school.
