Monkey on the loose in Pewaukee

City of Pewaukee - A monkey is on the loose in the city, Det. Jake Bernotas said today.

At the same time detectives were investigating a burglary, police received a call from a resident who said she saw a monkey in the rear of her residence in the W24000 E. Parkway Meadow Circle, Bernotas said.

The woman, who did not leave her name with police, said she first heard a ruckus about 3 a.m. and thought it was just a raccoon. Later in the morning, she could hear screeching so she used her binoculars and then saw the monkey. She called police.

An officer responded to the area and tried to catch the small monkey, but it eluded police escaping in a nearby marsh, Bernotas said. The monkey hasn't been seen since and police have received no calls about a missing animal.

In the same condominium complex, police were investigating burglaries of the clubhouse, maintenance building and another building, the detective said.
