Requests

Is there a particular song or songs that keep popping up that you can;t STAND to hear? Just curious...especially to hear what songs the DJs are sick of....

dear lord there are many. I feel bad naming too many because it steps on people's tastes. but I saw, for example Jive Bunny & the Mastermixers-Swing the mood was just on, not requested, and I hate that with a dangerous vehiment passion. Its like kareoke gone bezerk on a fist full of pills. I despise it!

I have always hated kajagoogoo & their TOO SHY song. I remember being 12 yrs old or so when this came out, and even then I said "I will hate this song forever." nearly a quarter of a century later and I still hate it.

I hate most country music that is not Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson. I respect the old stuff because of the history, culture, and time frame that it was made in, but this NEW stuff is nothing sort of torture. "Hi I'm from Detroit, but I am a true cowboy at heart...."

OK...wait,,,,,,you're not gonna start requesting this stuff regularly now are you?

I like my BUNNY tune on SATURDAY MORNING . It's part of my 6  HAPPY SNAPPY TUNES !

But , being the kind cool and considerate guy I am ( ala- smooth ) I will no longer request this song for fear of making one ( or possibly more ) listener feel , shall we say uncomfortable ? with their choice of radio stations.

From now on my Sat. morning requests  shall be known as ; The Festive 5 !   Unless of course you don't like the Curly Shuffle , then I can call it the ; Not so festive as 5 cause now it's only 4 !

That is of course unless you don't...

I'm with JD, for the most part, I don't like country. There's a couple songs I don't mind, and I can live through a country song here or there, but the country heavy days or when there's a few in a row, it's annoying.

Otherwise, really the songs I despise are any that are played repeatedly. I guess I get burnt out on a song really easy.

I pretty much like it all.

Everyonce in awhile a song does get overplayed and starts to get annoying, but eventually it gets played less and I start liking it again.

The only song I can say that I truly just hate is Laurie Anderson's "O Superwoman". It's the only non-rap song that I just can not find a single redeeming quality in

It's "Superman" not "Superwoman" Riggs.

Oh my god, you sound exaclty like my husband.  He always says that he respects the old "sincere" stuff, but how nowadays the poweres that be take someone from Detroit or NYC & throw a cowboy hat on them, and they somehow develop a fake southern accent.  It annoys the crap out of him!  That and the fact that modern country is just "dumbed down pop."  I love a lot of it, but I can't argue his point - it's absolutely true.

I don't know if that's an entirely fair asessment though.

Young artists don't usually force themselves into a style of music, they usually are influenced by what they heard growing up and as a result love.

If their parents brought them up on Country music, and as they get older they have a good voice and an itch to sing it only makes sense they'd get into country music.

It kind of bugs me that we seperate all the genres like we do. In the end it's voices and music. Maybe the country music uses more horns, and the hard rock uses more electric guitars, etc. But it's all just music.

Too be honest I could even listen to Rap music if it weren't usually so filthy. The fact that 80% of it is disgusting turns me off to the entire genre.

I actually have a hard time understanding people that dislike a genre as opposed to individual songs.

But most of them aren't even songwriters - it's cheesy.  (Keep in mind, this is coming from the girl who has a hundred "modern country" albums...)  Unless you have an exceptional voice like Ricky Van Shelton or something, I really don't see the point.

I'm always open to anything, and just because a song is labeled country doesn't mean I instantly won't like it. But I dislike about 90% of the songs labeled as country, and they obviously have something in common that I don't like. I think it's the beat, I just can't get into it. I think I dislike rap songs because of lack of a melody. It's the same the opposite way too. Just because a song is labeled as rock doesn't mean I'll like it.

I honestly believe you're getting a lot of the young artists that WOULD have gone into pop music going into country music, because the Pop charts have been taken over by the Hip Hop and Rap.

Country music is closer to pop from the 70's and 80's than anything else out there right now I think.

I used to hate country, expecially the old "twangier" country. It just seemed hill billyish to me.

But at the same time I hate that everyone always respects and appreciates the old and then diminishes the new as a result.

It's like on Saturday Night Live, everyone compares them to the "originals". Well the originals weren't actually any better than Phil Hartman, or many or CERTAINLY no better than Eddie Murphy or some of the others that joined the show later. They were just the first.

Yes, it was innovative in the 70's, but if they hadn't done it then Eddie Murphy would have been the original later and it would have been innovative then.

Does anyone think if Elvis and the Beatles never existed that Rock and Roll wouldn't be what it is today? They were just players in a bigger picture. Yes, give them their due and appreciate them for their music, but don't act like no one compares to them because they were among the first to do what they did.

Anyway, that's my opinion. If I'm alone in it I'm ok with that. I guess it just makes me an innovative, original thinker!

Hey LS, the songwriting thing is a good point.

I've always been a big Tim McGraw fan, but it has always frustrated me that he writes NOTHING. He's said in interviews he's just not able to do it, but he's very careful picking songs to find ones that he "could have written".

I think I've loosened up a bit on my views of this since watching American Idol the last five seasons. I've kind of come to appreciate the voice as a talent of it's own and that maybe not everyone CAN write a song. Besides, I'm not sure 17 year olds would have all that much to say that would be worth putting into a song

Tim McGraw is the perfect example to me.  Except I don't think he's a good singer.  I think he is attractive in a way, and that gets a lot of lady fans.  And he's married to Faith Hill, and a lot of people dig that relationship.  But talent?  I just don't see any.  I hope I don't get hate mail for this, but it's the way I feel.

P.S. - I can name some 17 year olds who are / were very good songwriters.  Matraca Berg's first hit went to #1 while she was still in high school.  And look at Debbie Gibson, or Charlie Sexton, or Jonny Lang.  They were writing & performing as teens.  If you have the gift, you have it!

Now, if you're a vocalist - like an exceptional singer, like a Broadway or opera singer, who has really honed your craft, that's a different story to me.

I agree on both points.

the Jane song never really bothered me. Didn't like it, didn't hate it. But then again you guys are tuned in much more than I am! I can imagine repetition getting old.

Yeah, Jane's not a bad song, but it's not that good either. But back when it was playing at least twice a day, every day... that was beyond annoying. It wasn't the song, it was the frequency!

But that's before I'm really awake and doesn't bother me that much. It's better than playing in the middle of the day.
