I am starting the South Beach Diet on Monday.... Does anyone know someone that used this program? I am getting very excited and have my menus all ready!! Any information would be very beneficial!!
I love BBQ!!! I don't have the SB Book but I am an online member!! It is a great site. It will make your menus for you and prepare a shopping list as well. I hope your boyfriend doesn't mind the few extra pounds you have out on thanks to him.... hehehe
Oh he better not...... I have a bone to pick with him if he does. He went for his annual physical last week, and his doctor told him he put on 22 lbs, since his last visit, and that was a year ago...
It sounds like you both love the BBQ! I am trying to lose my weight to get healthy. I have very high cholesterol and heart disease runs in my family so wish me luck.
I'm not really "dieting" to lose weight, but I had to cut fat and cholseterol because my cholesterol was high too. A little weight loss was an added side effect. I started walking at the first of the year and that combined with cutting back on fat intake, within 6 months, I was able to get back well within the normal range. My LDL litterally cut in half.
The summer heat has knocked me off my dedicated walking schedule, but I will get back to it as it cools down some. I was walking almost 4 miles every evening when it got hot. My Dr. put me on Niacin to help. I'm going to try to see if I can stop taking the medicine and keep it under control with the lifestyle change alone.

My doctor had put me on medicine to but I didn't take it. But both of my bad levels are extremely elevated. I know that one is over 250 and I do not remember the other one. I try not to think about it. This is very stupid I know but I am about to go back to the doctor and try this lowering again. I need to get out and walk myself but with this summer heat in the high 90's low 100's makes it very hard. We should be each other's motivators. What do you think??
Yes, the weather makes it tough. I can't justify spending the money on a nice treadmill now so I will just work with what I got. Its good for me to get away from the screen and actually go outside anyway.
I found some motivation in podcasts. I have several podcasts that I like to listen to so I save them for walking. I dump them on my phone/mp3 player and make myself go walk if I want to listen to them.
That sounds like a great idea Webguy!! I might have to try that Podcast thing!!
I missed it yesterday about the cream puff! I was locked out since it was sold out so early. Yesterday was my son's first day of school and so I came in late.

Hey Web, if you DO buy a treadmill do a lot of research on one before spending your cash.
I've been very disappointed with mine. It's a nice Pro-Form Model, ran me about $750. In two years of owning it I have yet to get the belt to work properly. I can use it, but it's always slipping at higher speeds. And adjusting it to keep it straight is a pain in the butt. It seems like it needs readjusting every month or so for some reason.
I wouldn't buy it again. I'm going to call a repair guy in and see if there's anything he can do, but I think it's just the way it is.
Has anyone else had one? Did I just get a lemon perhaps?
Oh, by the way, 5 rounds with the Slam Man did the trick for me today. I feel much better!
It's got a bunch of different programs that activate the lights, and you hit them as they light up. Sort of like a Whack-A-Mole game
I usually like to do all the early rounds in a very measured pace, just following the lights, then for the last round I let loose and beat the crap out of the thing.
When I finish that last round I feel like everything that was bothering me has been taken away
WAAY- I have never done South Beach, but Disco Strangler is doing it, she is with the bird in New Mexico, but should be back soon. She is having good luck with it!

I am not to sure if it really focuses on anything but healthier eating. I just like it because it gives you menus and shopping lists. Those are both things that I struggle with. Silly I know but what can you do... I will let you all know how it goes.
I'm looking at the site now. It keeps talking about the "right" carbs. It looks like it is working off the glycemic index which is based on foods that take longer to digest and have a slower energy/sugar release. Its probably a good thing.
