Hope he just did not admit it for the publicity!

CNN) -- A suspect has been arrested "for the December 26, 1996, murder of JonBenet Ramsey," the district attorney in Boulder, Colorado, said Wednesday.

A law enforcement source identified the suspect as 41-year-old John Mark Carr, a one-time school teacher. He was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, following "several months of a focused and complex investigation," District Attorney Mary Lacy said.

Two law enforcement sources told CNN that Carr was under investigation for an unrelated sex crime.

Carr was arrested Wednesday morning and has confessed to certain elements of the crime that are unknown to the general public, CNN affiliate KUSA reported.

An investigator with the District Attorney's office is bringing Carr to Colorado from Thailand.

JonBenet's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, were both consulted during the investigation, Lacy said, and the Ramsey family had been notified of the arrest. Patsy Ramsey died in June of ovarian cancer at age 49.

"It is our hope that this arrest will bring some closure to the Ramsey family after a 10-year ordeal," said the family's attorney, Hal Haddon.

JonBenet's father, John Ramsey, released a statement after the arrest. He said that his wife knew an arrest was coming when she died.

"Had she lived to see this day, would no doubt have been as pleased as I am with today's development almost 10 years after our daughter's murder," The Associated Press reported. (Read the full statement)

Prosecutors in Boulder are expected to hold a news conference Thursday.

JonBenet's beaten and strangled body was found in the basement of the family home in Boulder, Colorado, the day after Christmas in 1996. She was 6.

A grand jury investigation into the death of the child beauty pageant winner ended without charges in 1999.

The investigation focused a spotlight on the child's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey. Patsy Ramsey died in June of ovarian cancer. She was 49.

The Ramseys said an intruder committed the crime, but they remained the subject of suspicion and speculation.

In 2003 a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against the Ramseys, blaming the police and the FBI for bungling the investigation. The Boulder County District Attorney's Office concurred with the judge's opinion the following month, saying there was little evidence against the couple

The Ramseys left Colorado and had a house in Charlevoix, Michigan, where John Ramsey unsuccessfully ran for office in 2004

Leave it to Ruby to always post hot news items- thanks Ruby! I did catch Barbara Walters briefly interviewing Mr. Ramsey via telephone. SHe was in tears and is convinced they never did it and that they are now vindicated. I hope the right person is caught.

I am so glad this will finally come to an end. Great for the family to put closure on it but I think it has been one big freakin circus show since 1996. Do you realize how many children have been murdered since then? But because there name was Ann Smith and they were poor, I guess it didn't matter as much.

In 1998 a psychic, hired by the Ramsey's gave an artist her vision of what she "saw" the killer of Jonbenet as.  Compare the drawing and the actual picture of the admitted er.



Has anybody else heard about this!!!  I was driving home today from work and two djs from Nashville said they went to the Jon Benet Ramsey website and found this sketch that was done by a psychic in 1998.  They said they could tell that it had been on the site since 2001.  If it's real, it's FREAKY!!!

Everyone in the media is really skeptical that this guy is on the up and up.

His ex-wife has already said he was with her in I think Alabama or something like that the night of the murder.

His Dad has said his son has been obsessed with the case since it happened.

I wonder what evidence they have. It must be strong enough that they'd be willing to come out say they think they got him. They sure wouldn't want to be made to look like fools again.

I have been weary from day one- thinking he is in trouble in Thailand, but if he comes home, then any fate here would be better. I can't believe he was married

I do not know which be worse, if he is lieing because he is a sicko or the Colorado prosecutor and the FBI and the media jumping the gun and giving this man what he wants- ATTENTION

Like I said, I'm ASSUMING they have some very solid evidence. Because as of tonight the reports are that he never set foot in the ENTIRE STATE!

John Ramsey said he has NEVER seen the guy before and police have always beleived the killer was very well aware of the Ramsey household and it's cubby holes and stuff.

I'm having my doubts about the guy too.  He's definitely not playing with a full deck. 


Locally, We just had a 10 year case come back with a guilty verdict today.  It's sort of our Jon Benet case for Nashville.  It's the Perry March case.  It was spotlighted on one of those one hour true crime dramas on CBS.  He was a prominent Nashville attorney.  Beautiful wife, kids.  Perfect looking family.  His wife disappeared.  Her body never has been found.  He was always the prime suspect.  He lost custody of the kids to his in-laws.  So, he grabbed them and ran off and started a new life in Mexico. 


It's just a very BIZARRE story. He hired a hitman to kill his inlaws.  The hitman was wired and taped the whole conversation.  The guy's father ended up ratting on him and confessing that he helped bury the body.  Unfortunately, he's like 80 now and hasn't been able to lead police to it.  Anyway, they ended up with enough circumstantial evidence to convict him. 


It would actually make a great Movie of the week.

This story this a.m. pissed me off- WHY would he be treated to such a meal and alcohol?



Karr sipped champagne, beer, and chardonnay and dined on shrimp and duck during the flight, The Associated Press reported.
