Candles and the like

Do you burn candles or tarts or use plug ins? I got tired of the plugins that last a week or two, but I burn candles like a pyro! I do not have a favorite scent, just something that travels through the house!

I burn candles. I made my own for awhile, but I've since lost the time. But I still have plenty.

I'm allergic to most of that stuff so we don't use very many of them. AC would if she could.

i haven't mastered it yet. I've only made votives. But no it's not really hard. Just a little time-consuming and you need room to do it.

I guess I will stick to buying them for a bit. Maybe when E gets older, we can try.

I watched how they dip candles on Mr Rogers one day! It was pretty cool.

I've got this big gothic candleabra thing that I light every once in awhile, its pretty cool. Oh and in my fireplace I have candles, like to light that on winter nights. all the nice glow of a tiny fire without any of the mess.

oh its a fake fireplace, woo. I think those are just silly. but with the candles in it- I think I have 8 big ones on 2 stands, it looks nice. I like to light that when its snowing out and keep the blinds open and watch the snow. I mean, I hate snow, but this is just an attempt to make lemonaide out of the lemons.

I love candles. We get the smelly plug in stuff too, but I think all those are empty in our house right now. My hubby likes to burn candles for decoration a lot too.

Those are silly hey? I got a big ol' fake one in my living room too. When I moved in I really thought it was real at first. they even have the wall pushed out to make room for the non-existant ventilation

If i had a fireplace that sucker would run all winter long non-stop.

We have a fireplace in our living room. We're thinking about tearing it out when we remodel that room. Anybody want it?

Ours is a "real" fireplace, but it is a cheap one. It is a metal firebox with just wood around it. It has a little fake Z-Brick on it but its kinda cheezy looking. A fireplace won't help you much with your heating bill. It makes that one room feel nice, but your warm air goes up the chimney with the smoke. If you are serious about heating with wood, get a wood stove, not a fireplace. HUGE difference in effectiveness.

Oh, I just would run it constantly because I like watching the fire. Very soothing. I had heard that about fireplaces though, that they don't really help with the heating at all. I bet it would help if you kept the vent closed though hey?

Two of my uncles converted their houses to wood furnaces. They save a TON every winter on heating costs now. But it's a lot more work than just turning your thermostat up or down a notch.

my aunt and uncle had a wood burning stove, and everything smelled in their house like burned wood. I remember sleeping over once, and the sheets smelled smokey, and they were clean too- just pulled out of the drawer.

but I would love a fireplace too- just the soothing aspect of it and the light when its cold and snowy outside. I kinda get that with the candles, with out the maintenance or hauling in wood...

You can get a special blower that circulates the air through the house. When we moved that was my biggest want- a fireplace. We got it and I run it as much as I can. I love the feeling it lends to the house. But unfortunately that is only but a month or two!

that's my big want when I decide to buy- I want a fireplace, and a big old porch with a wood swing. heck it could be a little shack for all I care, so long as I had these.
