400th Street??

I am double-checking an address right now for a job-mailing. In Riceville, Indiana, there is a 400th street!

I am thinking that this would be a tiring drive, even if its not that far, due to counting the streets! 217......218........219........

How is your town layed out street-name wise? hopefully better than this??

In Milwaukee, the North/South streets, for the most part west of the milwauke river are numbered, from 1 to about 124, I believe. West of that is suburbs with Lanes, Drives, Courts etc.

East of the river to the lakefront, are named after presidents and city founders to the lake, which lake drive snakes along....

The east/west streets all are named streets. If you view Wisconsin avenue as cutting through the center of the city, from the suburbs, straight through down town to the lake, most places in town are real easy to locate.

We don't have the nubers thing here all streets have names, I think I would get confused with numbers.

We have first, second, third street etc.... goes up to fourteenth street I believe.  All the other streets are common named.... but they get confusing too.   We have Park Street, Park Avenue, Park Place, and Park Circle...... (not kidding)

I wouldn't want the 9-1-1 dispatcher to get confused if I lived on one of those streets and call out the wrong one, you could die before they figure out which one they really needed.

i don't think it's a dumb topic.  i've always wondered why getting around in the city has to be so confusing.  and i've always wondered what other places were like.  now i know that if i ever go to milwaukee, i'll get lost there too!

I would guess downtown Riceville (that I've never heard of, it's probably a rinky dink town) has 1st through maybe 10th streets. Then there's probably an industrial complex outside of town that had the choice of Industrial Drive or putting a number on their street. I swear every town in Indiana has an Industrial Drive, and they all look practically the same.

In Bloomington, all of our roads seem to have at least 3 names. The road outside of where I work is called Tapp, then later it's called Country Club for a block or two, then it's called Winslow, then when you start heading out of town, it's called Rogers. And we have another Rogers in town. And 5th street downtown is called Kirkwood, but then once you start getting out of downtown, it's called 5th; BUT, at about the same point Kirkwood becomes 5th, a couple blocks down, 3rd street ends; so then, Kirkwood turned 5th does a jog thing and becomes 3rd! (And I wonder why the new college students drive like they don't know where they're going...)
