Crummy stuff that's happened 2 u

What's one of the worst things that happened to you that you feel comfortable sharing with FFR family?

Let's see, where do I start?

My car was stolen when I was 18 only a short time after getting it. WHile it was a used, old 84 Monte Carlo over 100,000 miles- I LOVED it. I had all my new college textbooks in it, an AWESOME fitting pair of jeans, and a full tank of gas when someone stole it and destroyed it.

I can go on but one story at a time. Next.

some years ago I fell between a truck and a loading dock at work and broke my ankle.  it was 3rd shift and the lighting back at the dock was terrible. my boss was out sick and the other people I worked with didn't have a car. I was stubborn and didn't want to call an ambulance so I drove myself to the emergency room. stick shift- that hurt bad.

2 cops see me dragging myself to the emergency room, you think they'd offer to help?

Geez, I've been pretty fortunate.

I guess only two things come to mind. One I wouldn't share, but the other was having my bike stolen when I was a teenager.

We had a corner store a block from my house that I went to everyday. It was so small that you walked in the door and basically were right at the counter, you could see the door from anyone in the store.

Anyway, I had a new bike for my birthday, and I used to ride it CONSTANTLY. I pulled the bike up to the door and actually left the wheel partially in front of the door so I could see it. I walked up to the counter and bought something, when I looked back at the door the bike was gone

I actually thought someone was joking with me or something it happened so fast. never got it back

After I had Baby Cheese about a month later I was at home and I felt really bad. In fact, I felt worse and worse as the days went on after coming home with her. I felt GREAT during my pregnancy so it didn't make sense- you're supposed to heal and get better after having a baby. Anyway, I made a gross discovery 4 weeks later that the Dr. left 2 feet of gauze inside me that they inserted at deliver AND WERE SUPPOSED TO REMOVE THE NEXT DAY. I still want to sue them. I had to go to the ER and didn't feel myself for a few months after that. I went to many different Drs. who think I'm ok.

Yikes!

You hear about that stuff all the time, you would think a highly trained and PAID profession like that would have safety measures in place to make sure something like that doesn't happen!

ditto what Dave said, I mean don't get me wrong, I am blessed with a beautiful daughter and son, a husband and a good job and home, but I have had my share of death (mom at 12 to start), crimes and bad luck. Hate to depress, so just know a lot.

Crummy is in the eye of the beholder. I ton of crummy stuff has happened to me, but I don't think of it that way. It's just life.

But one story I will share that I still brood over.

When I was 3 I became friends with a girl named Lisa, who was 4. She lived with her dad and her grandma, because her mom was a druggie. At 5, my mom and dad divorced, and my mom and I moved away from that apartment complex. My mom and I moved around a few times, when we finally found an apartment right before my 6th birthday. One day as we were walking down the street, we saw Lisa's grandma! Lisa had moved just blocks away from us. So, we became best friends again. We remained best friends when my mom and I moved in with my soon to be stepdad, the next town over. We remained best friends when Lisa moved to Arizona to live with her mom for 2 years. When she moved back in with her dad, they were on the line for which high school she could go to, so she chose to go to the same highschool I went to. With all the moving around, she lost a grade, so she was now in the same year as me. She hung around with my friends, who were a pretty well-behaved (and sometimes kinda nerdy) group. Then at the beginning of senior year, she decided to drop out.

My senior year of high school was my sisters first year of school, kindergarten. She had been going to a preschool daycare, so we had to find someone else to watch her and still be able to get her back and forth to school. Well, Lisa wasn't working and wasn't going to school, so we offered to pay her to come watch my sister in the mornings, and she agreed. Her dad would drop her off on his way to work, so she'd arrive after my mom and stepdad left, but before I did. After I left, she was supposed to wake my sister up, get her breakfast, then later get her lunch and walk her to school (a few blocks away). Then when my mom got home, she would take Lisa home. Lisa would have this job until the school year ended, the first week in June.

Well, we never got the phone bill for May. When my mom got it in June, Lisa had charged hundreds of dollars in long distance calls to some guy that she met over the internet. Just by looking at the phone records, we could tell the time that I left in the morning and the time that she took my sister to school, she was on the phone for the rest of the time.

Then in July, I got a computer for my 18th birthday. I was going to get a second phone line to use for the internet. When I called the phone company, they asked if I had tried to get a phone line for a different address before. Of course I hadn't, and it was Lisa's address. She had used my identity to try to get a phone line, but since I was under 18, the phone company wouldn't do it. So I filed a police report, but since she hadn't succeeded, the police wouldn't do anything about it.

Then a couple months later, my mom got a letter from the phone company that she had a $3,000 past due bill! It turns out that when Lisa couldn't get the account set up using my social security number, she used my name and my mom's number instead. We took her to small claims court, she didn't show up, so the judge ruled in our favor.

I still haven't seen Lisa, and I don't want to.

Oh my God!!  Didn't you sue?  That's just plain carelessness.

i have to agree with mz...

i'm a kinda "pick yourself up and dust yourself off" person. i try not to complain because i know there's always someone who has it worse.

i guess the most recent big crummy thing i can remember happened about five years ago when kids broke into our home and stole a bunch of stuff.  thankfully, they didn't wreck the place, but it's such and invasion of privacy...

Hi LS-

One of my best friends is an attorney but he doesn't practice that kind of law- his brother does. So, I talked to him and he advised me not to because I had no real damages and the cost of litigation might actually cost me because judges in my county tend to back off from these kind of suits...I still have a year to figure it out. I might still go to court. We'll see. The most I'd get- as far as a I know- might be about 5-6k- I guess it's better than nothing but I'm not sure I want to relive all that. Thanks for asking though.

I suppose the worst thing that has directly happened to me was the surgery to remove about a foot of my colon a couple years ago. That resulted in a colostomy for 7 weeks and then a second surgery to put everything back together.

Well, I suppose I can understand that - Glad it didn't do too much damage!
