Hugo pictures

So I found them finally and told JD I would post. These have been scanned in as they are from 1987.
These first three are a local gas station, hotel and restaurant.

The second one is my favorit Chinese restaurant and the street it was on and looking out our back door to the neighbors.

The third set is a local boat storage facility- it is hard to see, but all three stories were flattened and of course was full of boats, a local bar- with beer still on the table and a random fire- they were everywhere too!

and finally the last set was in our neighborhood and a local radio tower! Anyway hurricanes do scare me!

- thanks for posting!

I got done watching the spike lee hurricane katrina movie the other night.  I don't know what gets me sicker to my stomach- the destruction, or the fact that hardly anything is being done, or if it is, its at a snails pace...

are their any signs of hugo there still ruby? or is everything fixed up? got new trees etc....

It took a long time here too. Some things never got rebuilt. But there was enough left for people to live here while the reconstruction was going on. That is a big difference. People need a place to live, work and eat to make the rebuilding happen. Supplies need to be somewhere too. I can totally understand the delays in New Orleans-! What changed the most was the population, we called them Hugonites! People from all over that came here to work and never left! But there are some signs still- forests mainly, you can see them coming back but it will take decades to be full blown forests! Another thing it did was clean up a lot of areas that were bad to begin eith- abandoned homes and poor poor people, their homes were leveled!
