Morning sir.

Can't believe it has been five years since our lives were changed forever. May God bless all who suffer still today.

Morning Ruby,

I wanted to say something about today but couldn't think what to say, I think what you said is perfect, so I will just echo your sentiments.

Thanks sir, I know that the suffering is not limited to just the US either. 9-11, changed your life too!

How was your weekend?

My weekend was fine thanks, just the same old sitting around not doing much. How about you?

Yeah I decided to go with the plant pot, the "pick me" egg was too obvious and the upside down box was bound to be a bad choice!

Well it has been 5 years since that horrific day on Sept 11th.  It really doesn't seem like 5 years have past.  I can remember exactly what I was doing at work that day, and how the whole department was just glued to the TV in shock.   Let's all just take a moment today to remember the great men and women who lost their lives that day trying to save us from the terror.

good morning all!

I am havin a grill out today with Riggs and some of our firends to celebrate friendship and life. 5 yrs ago we were to go to a ballgame, but of course that didn't happen. What did happen is that we still got together and were damned thankful that we were still able to do so. This is year number 5 of us gettin together on Sept 11 to remember that day. and to celebrate life and our friendship.

That is an awesome idea JD.

It doesn't feel like it has been five years to me either.

I remember on that day I was working in my shop when the first news came over the radio. At first they made it sound like a small plane hit one of the towers, then it changed to a big jet, then both towers. I remember just standing there leaning back against my workbench listening to the radio for a couple hours. After a while, I went home to watch CNN.

I certainly don't want to take anything away from those that were lost, but I think we are really fortunate that even more were not killed that day. As I watch the reenactments on tv, it the the planes would have hit much lower, or if the towers would have collapsed sooner, the loss of life would have been much greater.

May those that lost their lives rest in peace.

Morning all ,  5 years ago today I was working in the tire shop when the boss's wife called .

I ran over to my trailer and turned on the TV , then I ran back and got my boss .He came over and watched with me. He kinda dropped his head a little , I don't think he said 3 words the rest of the day.

side note - How  I think 9/11 affected the world the most ;  It meant that people could no longer hide their heads in the sand and plead ignorance .  It's just to damn bad it took 3000 + lives to do it.

5 years ago I was sitting in my classroom.  The instructor had said that it was break time but I remained in the room and began to wonder what took everyone so long to come back.  They had been known to take long breaks but this was crazy.  When they all came back in the room the first plane had hit and the instructor told us that we could leave for the day.  I went straight to my son's school to pick him up since we live right next to a military installation.

I cannot believe that we still choose to be blind as a nation to how unprotected we are as a whole.

The thing I remember most about that day was leaving work and how quiet the streets were, the streets just seemed to be silent for some reason, and when you went into shops all people were talking about was the attack, even being this far away form New York, it still shocked everyone I think.

They had a big story in our local paper yesterday about how September 11 truly was a turning point in history.

It pointed out that often America is viewed as feeling self-important and thinking that whatever happens to us is more important to the rest of the world than it is.

But polls in the months following the attacks found that all around the globe 70 - 90% of people thought this was a huge moment in the history of the world and a possible turning point of sorts. Even Middle Eastern countries, although many of them probably viewed it as a good thing, as if their voice had finally been heard.

I'll always remember seeing news reports of people celebrating in the streets in foreign countries over the attacks and thinking "How can these people be filled with so much hate for people they never met".

Everyone thought that 9/11 would slow the world economy to a halt and change everything from immigration methods to world trade. But every indication is that we barely missed a beat.

In the end terror isn't going to win out. It's an unconventional battle that's hard to determine how to fight, but we'll figure it out (and by we I mean all the countries that are commited to wiping it out).

I had just got home from collecting the kids from school and the phone was ringing...my husband asked me to put tv on to see if something was going on... Apparently his colleagues were all huddled round a tv or pc at the other end of the room and he couldn't see...

At first like any switching on that day I wondered if it was a tragic accident or terrorism...but on hearing there had been 2 planes changed that...

I just sat and watched in a state of shock...fearing...wondering...how many more planes could be up there in the sky that moment planning to destroy...

The scenes and losses were horrific... As the days moved on there was a deep sense of loss over here too...firemen on streetcorners and supermarkets collecting for their new York colleagues and families.....

So, as there are movies and shows coming out about 9/11, what does everyone think? Too soon?

As long as they are factual based I think it is okay. I guess because I did not lose anyone that is eaiser said than done. I do not see a movie or book as being disrespectful. What I do have a hard time with is that we keep showing updated Al Queda videos- why give them airtime? It is not okay for Oliver Stone to produce a tribute, but it is okay for Osama to say something?
