Thanks.

I'll try to figure out what's going on with that left channel only.

Well THAT'S good. This is still a temporary fix, but I really want to get this working for tomorrow

I bought a laptop today.

WHAT A DEAL! A really nice, compact Gateway for $449.99 on clearance from $699.99

It's MORE than enough for just doing the internet and stuff.

I went to buy Windowz XP but when I saw the price ($200!) I said forget it!

holy crap!!! I thought it was $99!!! heck for that price why not just pay a little more than double and get a whole new system then!

exactly what I thought. It's not top of the line, but it's got a lot in it. And I have extra memory I can add.

this is just my personal computer JD. I don't know what I'm doing with the broadcast. we're gonna use the one from the living room for the show, but it's not good enough to stay as the broadcast system.

I don't know what's gonna happen anymore. But I'll see what I can rig up tomorrow.

No, that's it

Thanks.

I thought I got rooked cuz the processor is only 1.5 on this laptop, but laptops are usually slower than desktops and for the money it's fine.

Hey Riggs, I'm gonna ask an old skool question. How does the mic plug in to your pc? What kind of plug does it have on it? Have you used this mic on that pc before?

Hey Spark,

I had to buy adapters that turn it from one of those big honkin' plugs to the same size you'd plug into an ipod or other mp3 player, then it just plugs into the back of the computer where it says "mic"

Web was telling me though that with the mixing board I could get some better mics with these multi-prong plugs that include added power to boost sound and lower the hiss.

Are you thinking of picking one up? You wanna do a show? I'd throw it to you once a week

Stop me if you have allready checked this, does the big adapter have one line or two lines across the male part? Same with the little plug? If one plug has 1 black line and the other has two that will cut the stereo out.

You probably allready know this stuff but you would be suprised when I worked at the Shack how many people didn't.

They do have two sparky, they are stereo.

But I had this problem in the past, where it was almost mono for a while then suddenly BAM stereo. I don't get it

OK, the jack to the back of the pc might be mono? Do a test for me, ever so slightly start pulling the jack out of the back of the pc while talking into the mic, sometimes you can hit on both of the channels that way.

Ok, I'll give it a try.

It SHOULD be a stereo jack, it's a 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Card, I would hope they wouldn't skimp on the microphone plug

Ok, for a second I did hear stereo! There is a definate plug connection problem. Maybe between the big plug and the little plug. That's what I would try next if you want to.

Both plugs should look like the second one.

But only if the jack to the pc is truly a stereo mic plug

found the problem,

I have a 3 way adapter (allows three mics into one jack)

The male end is stereo.

The two mics running into this 3 way adapter each need an adaptor to make the big plug into the right size, those are both mono

The weird thing is these are the SAME ones we used on the old computer and they had problems at first but eventually were just fine and coming through in stereo. Does that many ANY sense?

Looks like I gotta hit radio shack tomorrow.

Is there a mono/stereo switch/button for the mic input in the software?

Yep that's your problem, the reason it probably worked after a while before is because the line was making contact between channels. A quick temporary fix is to play with the plug and pull it out until you hit both channels.
