No sir- not my real dad. My real parents are in Belgium somewhere. They do not speak English either. I was adopted at birth and consider my mom and dad that adopted me to be my parents. Cause they are. My birth parents are not in this picture. Apparently my mom was married before she married my dad and this is him. She died when I was twelve, so I can't ask her.

I just hate that no one ever told me anything, so I am not comfortable asking.

Well Dave, the person I cared most in the world left me at 12 years old. I just want to paint a clearer picture and not let her die in my mind. This man was married to her and so he must have thought well of her for a period of time.

I never thought I would find him and when I did, he could have ignored the email. If he would not have responded, I would have let it go- it was the only lead I had.


Guess you have to be in my shoes and I guess I watch too many soaps!

Life is always full of suprises. Over labor day weekend when my husbands family was up in northern Wisconsin, his Grandma revealed that she had 2 children (before she was married and had the 3 we know about). She was very young and now they are looking for her...the state of Kansas contacted her to see if she'd like to meet them. She is now 76 and I guess my husband has 2 uncles out there we never knew.

Well I got another email, letting me know he looked forward to talking to me when he returns. I think last night Dave has me thinking I was doing something wrong, but my heart reassured me this morning all is ok. If my kids looked up my first real love to get some insight to me, I would be okay too. He was married to my mom and he should not have to feel threatened about anything. I am not his kid and do not want anything but to talk with someone who loved and married the greatest person that lived in my lifetime.

Well obviously one of you was wrong- I got exactly what I wanted too!

isn't much as it was so many years ago and our relationship wasn't that long,

I was introduced to your mother through a mutual friend from Peru who was connected with Columbia University. She was 23 or 24 years old. In three months we were engaged and then married soon after that in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in upper Manhattan (May, 1955 or 1956, I’m not sure which), even though your mother was Episcopalian. The wedding was beautiful, one of the Peruvian councilmen was the best man, the honeymoon was in Washington, DC. We spent quite a bit of time there with a Peruvian relative of mine who was in the Diplomatic Corps and showed us around. It was back to New York after a week, your mother worked at the Medical Center and I was working for Tiffany at the time making jewelry for them. We went to Peru in December of 1956 because it was summer then, spent some time with a few of my relatives, then went up to Cusco. She got a sunburn in Lima doing the tourist thing, then when we went up to Cusco, something about the altitude made the sunburn really flair up and she had to go to the doctor for treatment. She was OK the next day and the trip was fine after that.

We found out after we had been back from Peru that she was pregnant, but she lost the child and we started to draw apart after that. I was so disappointed, and looking back on it, the breakup was more my fault because of my Peruvian pride. She went to Mexico and got a divorce. We saw each other off and on after that, and I heard she went to Europe after awhile, and I lost contact with her after that. I remember she used to brush her red hair out, it was so pretty. I have very tender memories of Dorrie and have always wondered where she was.

Dorrie had the greatest family, her parents were wonderful. Her mother always had a big smile and loved to fuss around the house and cooking. Her father was very dedicated to his family. Her brother Robert was a couple of years younger and had his own photography studio. He did the pictures of the wedding, if you run across any of them. The younger brother Andre was about 14 so he was still in school. The family was always very kind to me and I regret losing that family contact.

I hope this helps fill in some of the blanks, although a lot of the details are lost to me as well. I’m thinking we were only married a year or so.

Does not answer why no one ever told my brother or I, but my family has many issues, so I won't bring it up. I know more now than my dad probably does! I know that he knew though, my mom ended up getting an annulment so she could marry my dad.
