I'm claustrophobic, but my fear is more of suffocating as it is of enclosed spaces. I don't do well in elevators, though I've been getting better and will ride in one if neccesary. I've walked up 7 floors before (and possibly more) to avoid using the elevator.

I'm also a bit agoraphobic (fear of crowds, or fear of not having a safe escape path). That's why I don't like shopping. I can feel the tension build every time I'm in a crowded situation, and I'm afraid some day I'll actually snap.

I got locked in my room once. It didn't have a doorknob but the mechanism was still there. That just freaked me out! I was frantically trying to get out, then crying, then just immobilized.

Last weekend I was helping a friend sand, and we were wearing dust masks. I had the hardest time with that, I felt like I couldn't breathe. I kept holding my breath and taking the mask off to breathe, but it was all subconscious. I realized towards the end after I had been wearing the mask for a while that I situated it so there was a gap in it so I felt like I could breathe. Which of course defeated the purpose of the mask.

I also have a hard time scuba diving. I'll go down, and I do okay breathing with the tank for a few minutes, but then I have to come back up to the surface to see the "real" world and breathe some outside air.

Oh yeah me too MZ- a fear of drowning. I love to swim and do, but going under like that- I am afraid I will not come back.

i don't like spiders & snakes.....


and sometimes i give myself the creeps...


  oh, and today i'm really scared of the copy machine.


 


jk...   i'm scared of bears -- i told my husband that i won't go hunting with him anywhere there are bears...

I don't think the drowning part is it, I think it's the limited space thing, because I can snorkle and go under with no problem.

I had to look through the list. Most of my biggest phobias are "social" ones. Like:

Catagelophobia- Fear of being ridiculed.
I'm always afraid I'm going to say something stupid when I'm talking to new people.

Glossophobia- Fear of speaking in public or of trying to speak.
This one is getting better since I've been up in front playing bass at church.

Even at that, none of my "phobias" are anything to totally freak me out. Most of them I can function through.


This one just made me laugh out loud:
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia- Fear of long words.
