R.E.M., Van Halen, Patti Smith and the Stooges are among the nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Chic, the Dave Clark Five, Joe Tex, and the Ronettes also are on the ballot. The five honorees will be announced in January, and the induction ceremony will be held March 12 in New York.


 Sorry, Kiss fans. Your protests in front of the Hall museum in Cleveland didn't get your heroes onto the ballot. Meanwhile, R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe threatened long ago to keep his band out of the Hall until the Monkees were inducted, but the mop-tops aren't nominated, either. Could it be that Jann Wenner and fellow Hall officials nominated Stipe hero Smith at the same time to make sure the band showed up?

Just out of curiosity... how is Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five considered to be Rock and Roll?


I seriously have to wonder how some of these artists actually get nominated.

Good Question, but I'll ask the same of Joe Tex?  At least Grandmaster flash was at the forefroint of his genre.....Ya know it must be there must be a ceratin number of minorities each year!

Though KISS is eligible for enshrinement in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (whose rules state that an act is eligible 25 years after its first release), they have not been nominated. While this snub displeases some fans, Stanley and Simmons maintain that it is meaningless to them. Nevertheless, a group of about 200 KISS fans held a protest rally in front of the Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio on August 5, 2006. It was the first known organized demonstration seeking the induction of a band into the Hall.[28] A similar march was scheduled to be held in Melbourne, Australia, but was subsequently cancelled.
