It's a regular thing up here to turn the electricity off for a few hours to check the power supply!  Can't believe this town has sirens as well.  Sitting here today these town sirens go off and I was terrified!  Thought we had to evacuate or something...turns out the water supply was down and needed to be topped up.  Have to learn what all the sirens mean yet!

Sonds like a fun place to live Jules, power going off, water needing top ups and a variety of dangerous animals walking around, keeps you on you toes I guess.

It is a whole new experience for me!!  Sirens for everything...cyclones, explosions, accidents, crocodile attack, water supply etc!  I don't have a car as yet...trying to learn to drive a big manual 4WD at the moment.  My sister, her husband and 3 kids live up here (not for too much longer though) so I have at least someone to help me through while I learn the town!

Yes it is Summer here now and we really need the rain but a little worried if my flight out of here on Sunday will make it out!  Wet season has just started.  Need to head to pick up supplies from the city before we get flooded in for a couple of months!!  Hopefully I'll make it in and out just in time!

I hope you do Jules, It seems weird the concept of being stuck some where due to the weather, I know it happens in places all over the world, here in the UK there are cetain costal islands and villiages that get cut off from the mainland for hours and even days, but it is still a strange concept for me having always lives in small towns and villages with lots of access to shops and other facilities, I guess it is hard for you getting used to this new way of living.

I guess in a way it is the stero typical way that people from other countries see Austraians living, out in the bush with crocs and snakes, which obviously for the majority is just not the case, but it's nice to hear that there are people still living out in the middle of nowhere, I think it would a great adventure too, I hope it all works out for you.
