More useless, but music related, research: Song Most Likely to Make You Cry...

The Verve’s seminal hit ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ is the song most likely to make you cry, according to an expert.

Dr Harry Witchel carried out the research and claims that scientifically the 1997 hit will bring more people to tears than anything else.

The scientific tests measured people’s heart rate, breathing and skin temperature as they listened to a variety of tear jerkers.

It beat the likes of Robbie Williams’ ‘Angels’ and Elton John’s ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’ to claim the unique feat.

The full top ten looks like this:

1. The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work
2. Robbie Williams - Angels
3. Elton John - Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word
4. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You
5. Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
6. Will Young - Leave Right Now
7. Elvis Presley - Are You Lonesome Tonight
8. Christina Aguilera - Beautiful
9. James Blunt - Goodbye My Lover
10. Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees

On the other end of the scale, Lily Allen’s ‘LDN’ was the song most likely to make people happy, while the most exhilarating tracks was Blur’s Song 2.

Dr Witchel is a physiology and music expert and carried out the study for Nokia on songs.

‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ was number one on the week that Princess Diana died nine years ago.

I agree with Song 2 being exhilarating. I love that song.

But none of the other songs make me cry. Now, when it comes to songs that make you cry, you can't top a country song (and I generally don't like country). But I have a hard time listening to "Don't Take the Girl" without getting a tear in my eye. Or "I Hope You Dance." I think there's another one in there, but I can't remember it off hand.

OH COME ON!?!?!?

Where's Tim McGraw's "Don't Take The Girl"? Or Bob Carlisles "Butterfly Kisses" (yeah, I know it's cheesy but if you imagine yourself in the fathers role it's a tear-jerker everytime).

Or how about Sarah McLachlans "I Will Remember You", in the context of having lost someone you care about? Forget about it!

That list is all wrong I tell ya! ALL WRONG!!!

Also, Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers gets some people too.

Whitney Houston doing "I Will Always Love You" makes me cry alright. But just because a pretty song is being ruined. She YELLS it! (Most unpleasant.)

Off the top of my head, songs that make me cry:

Warrant - I Saw Red
Collin Raye - Love, Me
Clay Walker - The Chain of Love
Ricky Van Shelton - Keep It Between the Lines
Queen - These Are the Days of Our Lives
The Great American Melting Pot from Schoolhouse Rocks
Dolly Parton - Coat of Many Colors
Brad Paisley - He Didn't Have To Be (The first time I heard this song, I was driving, and I was crying so hard, I had to pull over. Literally.)

I was bawling my head off. But then again, I would cry hearing it over the mall's sound system.

Oh, a couple more biggies:
Debbie Harry - End of the Run
Savatage - Alone You Breathe

I think songs that make you cry is such a personal thing it will be different for eveyone, also It looks like a UK poll, due to the fact that LDN by Lilly Allen is mentioned as a happy song, do you guys know her? She is great but not sure how big she is over there yet, I know she is doing a few shows stateside lately. Check her out on myspace.
