The "Elvis Effect" (not Costello)

I know Elvis wasn't the first... Maybe guys like Beethoven messed it up for others? The Beatles, Stones, Zepplin? How many bands never happened because of this, what I will call "the Elvis Effect"

(refers to the Carl Perkins got a raw deal because of Elvis Presley's fame)

I don't know that he got a raw deal. Elvis had a very driven manager. Oh yeah - and he was like THE BEST LOOKING GUY IN THE WORLD!!

P.S. - The story goes: After Elvis recorded his vocals for his version of "Blue Suede Shoes", he said that's it - I'm never gonna get it as good as that guy anyway.

Ahh yes, Roy Orbison another victim, (Elvis's idol) beautiful voice ugly as sin,  Don't get me wrong I am probably one of the biggest Elvis fans, when I walk into a karaoke joint the great me as Elvis has entered the building. And when I leave Elvis has left the building.

Jerry Lee Lewis was so jealous of Elvis he tried to go after him with a gun.

What can you do with Jerry Lee Lewis? It seems unlikely it's the first time this question has been raised. You imagine it was asked when he married his 13-year-old cousin in 1958, or when he shot his bass player in the chest, or when he arrived at Graceland with a loaded gun and announced he'd come to kill Elvis, or a year later when, informed of the King's death, he remarked: "I'm glad. Just another one outta the way. What the **** did Elvis do except take dope I couldn't git a-hold of?"

I wondered about that LS, I was kind of afraid to buy it, I saw him on Lettermen and he sounded horrible!

He didn't know where the stage was and someone had to point it out to him.......well maybe forget that one, somethings never change!

Is it a sad try at a last album or did they do one thousad two hundred forty two takes to get it right?

Link Wray. I saw Link almost 2 yrs ago, just before he passed away. Holy crap, that dude was wicked. His son & super young wife had to walk him to the stage but, once he started playin', forget about it.
By the way, my Olds Service jacket is signed by Link. (and Big Daddy Don Garlits!)

Well, my autograph collect is actually on clothing. I wear "service" jackets, like the guys at the old auto service shops... when I go to shows, drag races or whatever, I bring a sharpie marker. I don't have many autographs but, I like the ones I do have.
Link Wray
Dick Dale
George Barris jacket/b&w glossy of Grandpa Munster drag racinig Herman
Big Daddy Don Garlitz jacket/poster
Arnie the Farmer Beswick (http://www.arniebeswick.com/bio.htm) on my Pontiac jacket
Couch Flambeau (local ledgends)
Citizen King told the kid selling their t-shirt, if he could get the band to sign it, I would buy it! $15
The Dbs signed my old jeans
Fleshtones signed my old jeans ('83?)
The Ventures (original line up) signed my wife's "stonewashed" jean jacket
All my other autographs are inside cd cases etc. When I buy a band's CD, they have to sign it. JD & I saw Bob Mould. Yep, he signed. I think JD got one also.

Husker Du, New Day Rising totally changed what I was listening to at the time. Funny, just the other day I was listening to Flip Your Wig. I I don't have a cd player or computer in my basement so, I pull out old cassettes and listen to them when I'm on the treadmill.

RE: The "Elvis Effect" (not Costello)

Elvis Effect:
With cars. Some cars never were recognized in their day because other cars were marked better. The mustang ruled the Pony market. GM made Camaros/Firebirds... there were others that either never made it to market or production. In 1960, all the car companies had small cars. Corvair, Futura, Tempest/Lemans, F-85, etc. It wasn't until 1964 when the Mustang happened that people thought about smaller cars being "cool" enough. Too late, GTO, Chevelle, Cutlass, Darts, etc. were already selling. Ramble, ramble oh, ya... Ramblers? Metropolitans? Studebakers?
